Wow! Notes explode off the fretboard. Betsy is my prized CS 63 Tele custom. She needs a fret job, but she still sounds great. I had to move the volume to 2:00 for the low powered pickups to make the amp bloom. Goldberry (the Gold Top LP) needs the amp to be just a little below noon for amp bloom.
It’s so expressive. By far the most dynamic amp I’ve ever played.
I’m having a good time exploring this amp.

It’s a super fun amp—and it’s flat out magic with a Tele.

Hi Russell, you say you had to run the gain around 2 o'clock to get some drive with your tele, was this with the master down low?
If so, would you think having the master up around half way result in more gain at this 2 o'clock setting, or does the master control the overall volume more, rather than the amount of gain?

If so, would you think having the master up around half way result in more gain at this 2 o'clock setting, or does the master control the overall volume more, rather than the amount of gain? I had the Master around 10:00. I've not had the Master above Noon because this amp is a LOUD 15 watts. I would say that getting the Master up past 9:00 starts to open up the amp and makes it more responsive and to me, makes the overdrive sound smoother and louder. I would think that once you get past noon with the Master, Output tube distortion would have to come. So, I think the Master affects the amp in more ways than just volume. Everyone will have to find their preferred settings.

Wow, so these are proper Z watts then!
Have you thought about installing something like a Brakelite into your Jr to allow the master volume to add some more power tube sound to the mix, or don't you think it needs it with such a good master volume?

No idea why I typed 2 o'clock, I read your post clearly, don't know what happened there! Wow, so these are proper Z watts then! Have you thought about installing something like a Brakelite into your Jr to allow the master volume to add some more power tube sound to the mix, or don't you think it needs it with such a good master volume? I'm not going to put a Brakelite in it. The Master works really well. This amp has a lot of gain on tap. P90s and humbuckers will drive it into 80's gain territory and maybe beyond a little. It CRANKS with the Volume at 3:00. I probably would never push it past that. Now that I think about it, with the Master up, the volume is probably getting the Greenback to open up a bit. Whatever it is, it's good.

Thanks Russell, it's great to hear your report, and how this amp is sounding more perfect for me the more I learn about it!
You are making the wait feel like longer though;-)

Agree absolutely on the MV; the magic really starts to happen once you get it around 10:00 or so. Also, yeah--the V at 3:00? Killer.

You guys are killing me. Can't wait for Doc to get some more out to the dealers so I can get mine. I have multiple teles lined up waiting to go.

Mine showed up today. #07. Lives up to the hype. So dynamic, just set it to the maximum amount of gain you want and then ride the guitar volume knob for all different shades. Bravo Dr. Z! Excellent, excellent amp

I've been surprised at how much gain it has truthfully. Even with a tele, I don't put the volume much past 2 even for rock leads.
