Currently own a M12 and RXJR. Always wanted a stangray and wreck. But the price points and volume were a better fit for me. I really love the way the M12 takes pedals actually. Great little amp. Tighter bass, fuller mids. Great platform. Lacks that Voxy chime a bit though. The RXJR is much better at that, but I am really considering getting rid of it for the first time ever. Would only do it though to put the money toward a Wreck Jr.
Three reasons to do it: 1. It’s a z wreck. That’s enough of a reason. 2. The harder I push the RX, the less I like it. It’s cleans are so fun. Spanky, expressive, wild. But they aren’t exactly Voxy. Close but not exact. And it’s dirt is a little too brittle for me. 3. I feel like the ZWJR could do the pushed clean thing as good as the RXJR but with more options further up the gain dial.
I hate to part with the RX for sentimental reasons. Love the Time Well Wasted album and that’s a big piece of those sounds. But I prefer the M12 as a pedal platform and want to run a pushed clean / half dirty in my second (dry) amp. Seems like the ZWJR would be better. Plus, I love that TW Rocket sounds and the z wreck is the only thing close.
Any owners of both have anything to add?

I'm in the same boat. I have a Cure and just picked up a Therapy, which I do like a lot. But wondering if selling those both for a Wreck Jr combo would be the thing to do. Decisions, decisions...

I feel like you've described the Rx Jr/Wreck Jr conundrum quite accurately. I always loved the RxJr's cleans--they're SO spanky and sparkly and, well, shimmery clean. Plus, its volume levels are completely manageable (as with the M12, too). But the existence of the new 'Wreck Jr almost certainly renders the Rx Jr to the back burner--how could it not? I see this as an unfortunate strike against a pretty good "legacy" model; although on the flip side, I maintain that the 'Wreck Jr could be the Doc's biggest crowd pleaser yet.

We’re not talking good vs bad. We’re talking world class vs legendary. There is no bad decision. I’d love to justify keeping the RXJR and just continuing to add. I don’t fee that would be good stewardship though as I believe the RXJR would see little play time. Guitar problems!!! I’d still be curious to hear if there are any who would keep an RXES over a Z Wreck (or their jr counterparts) and why?
