I've had 12" greenback's, but not 10". is anyone using these in a 1x10 or a 2x10 combo/cab? are they boomy, and do they have a TIGHT low end?

I have used one in a single 1x10 combo cab with both a Mini Z and a Maz 18 NR. I love it. Sounds very similar to the 12" heritage GB I have. Very full sounding for a 10" with plenty of bass. I would consider the low end pretty tight myself. Maybe not quite like a V30, but it certainly doesn't get loose at all.
In some ways I like the sound of it better than the 12" heritage that is in my Maz combo, since I don't really need the extra bass the 12" provides with that amp. I've actually considered installing one in there with a speaker adapter I have instead of the 12".

It’s one of my favorites as well. It’s very inefficient and lets you get the goods out of your amp at lower volumes. Lots of low end for a 10, and I would agree with the above about not getting flabby or loose.

I don't have one anymore, but I do recall it being pretty neutral and having that classic "woody" Celestion character. I believe the lows were fairly big for "just" a 10-inch speaker, but I wouldn't call it boomy. I simply recall it being very warm/neutral and versatile--similar to its larger sibling--which was impressive for a 10" speaker. The Ramrod and/or 10" Red Fang are WAY louder and more aggressively in-your-face, in comparison.

Would a 10” Greenback with a Carmen Ghia tend to kill off the top end chime and shimmer that the Ghia normally has?

Celestion recently came out with a 10” Creamback. 45 watts. May give you a little more fullness and stable low end. celestion.com/product/217/G10_Creamback/I’ve never tried either of the 10” versions but I have both 12” versions and the Creamback seems to hold together better with a little more fullness and balance. I prefer it over the Greenback with my Z’s. Definitely a warm speaker but not too dark.

I would think it might do a little bit...but probably not as much as you may want.
If the Ghia has more top end chime than you would care for....the tone control on the guitar is the best solution I know. For decades, I never used the guitar's tone control. But I had to when I used the Ghia...You get used to it.

Actually it's the other way around. I'm looking to preserve the chime and shimmer and was concerned that the 10" Greenback might darken it up some.

This input is actually interesting because I've always stayed away from 10's thinking I'll lose warmth and bottom end. While reading this, I looked over at my Maz Jr where I have the bass set to about 7 o'clock. So, it makes sense that you could turn the bass up if you want. Interesting.

No problem John.
Apparently we were just on different wavelengths there.

I picked up a very nice Maz Jr 210 on Boxing Day and swapped out the Z10 speakers for a Greenback10 and a Creamback10. They are perfectly matched and quite a bit less efficient then the Z speakers. The amp went from being very bass heavy to being sweeter in the mids with great balance between highs and lows. I can turn the master up a lot higher now and the combo lost about 6-7 pounds with the lighter Speakers. I really like using less efficient speakers to tame a loud amp and this really did the trick

Just curious what it would sound like. I play a 2x10 cab through my z28 with 1 z10” and a gold 10”.

Sorry I’m not setup to record at this point. I have a Z28 head but haven’t tried the 10’s with it as they are in a Maz combo. If the speaker lead is long enough I could possibly try it out. I am a big Z28 fan and used to own a 210 combo but now have the head and a matching 112. I’m using a UK built Greenback that seems to go really well with the head. I’m hoping to try some other speakers with it. I did try my Celestion Alnico Cream with the Z28 and it didn’t work for me. I find the Cream works so well with some amps and not so much with others.
