Good afternoon, Haven't played my Maz 38 2x10 Sr. out much since my son commandeered it. Before that happened some years ago I had swapped the orig Z speakers with Celestion Greenback 10s when they first came out. I liked the tone and was looking for a bit more crunch at lower volume. Lower overall volume is what I got. A precipitous drop. Power tubes test good- 3 different sets. I hadn't heard it in a while cause he plays in a quiet ensemble and it sounds great but the umph seems to be gone. Had trouble keeping up with a Fender Deluxe. What should I be looking at? Thanks, Ron

Tubes can test good and still not have the umph that fresh tubes have. You say it's been years since your son got the amp from you? I'd say you may be ready for fresh tubes. To check, plug it into an external cab. That way you can eliminate the speakers as the problem and make sure it still works right. I'd put the original speakers back in. Doc's 10's are amazing speakers. I use a pair in a 2x10 cab, open back with my Therapy and they sound great.

I did put a fresh set in there and not really much different. Will try the cab switch- good idea- thanks. I'll put Doc's speakers in a spare cab and do a taste test. Love the Greenback's tone but could that really bring the volume down that much?

I have no experience with 10" Greenbacks but I have played the 12" version, Z-10's, and Z-12's so I am going to conjecture that the 95dB sensitivity of the Greenback 10 has some thing to do with your problem. You are going to loose almost half of your volume because of that. You also say they are wired correctly. Does that include the correct impedance load to the correct Speaker Output jack?

I didn't realize that 2 db of sensitivity could make all that difference in overall volume! Schooled!
