Played an outdoor gig this past Saturday evening for a city "fireworks" show.. had to plug my Maz Jr into a generator.
On my normal settings, usually a good clean with a hint of hair, it sounded like a full-blown Tubescreamer was engaged!
While my cleans really suffered, I had the best dirty tones I've ever had! (Probably took 5 years off my transformer too) 😔

If the voltage is low that will happen. Had the same thing going on at a city festival last Thursday. The generator was only putting out about 105 volts and the sound company had the regulator cranked. It was a 12.5 Kw good generator but the weather sucked and we didn't have time to adjust the governor.

Agreed. Had the same things at multiple outdoor events. There was one that was really great, power wise, had multiple massive commercial generators. That was a rare treat.

And to put your mind at ease, you probably didn't hurt a thing in your amp. You just did an EVH 'brown sound variac' trick without a variac!

I do a couple of "generator gigs" every year. They always freak me out a bit due to voltages. Played one for a big outdoor party on Saturday with a nice whisper Honda. Plugged in my AMPRX Brown Box and the voltage meter read 129volts!! I scaled it back with the Brown box, but geez...It makes you wonder what could happen!
