If anyone is looking to drop some serious cash, Analogman found a batch of NKT275 transistors and has this option available for a short time on his website. It’ll be cheaper than the current secondhand market, but it’ll cost $175 for just the two NKT275 transistors to be added ($415 + s&h if you do an LED, fuzz pot on/off, and sun dial).
Disclaimer: I have zero affiliation with Aman other than owning a lot of his pedals. I know this is a rarer set of transistors so I figured I’d share the news in case anyone here wanted one.

I saw something about that last night...but those are red dots, right? Guess they were all over the map gain-wise.
I'll hang onto my "Poor Man's" Sunlion with NKT white dot transistors (aka separate Sunface and Beano Boost) Not much place for it in the band I'm in now but it does sound glorious when the opportunity presents itself!

The current batch of NKT275s (red dot) he found are all low gain. The NKT275 is not to be confused with his NKT Red Dot. Analogmike says the NKT Red Dot tests and sounds the same as the NKT275, but you know how “tone chasers” are. They won’t stop til they have the exact letters and numbers they’re looking for, even if there’s little to zero tonal difference in the transistor markings. That ultimately kept me from pulling the trigger this morning. I’m now trying to decide if I want to go the route you did with your “poor man’s” Sun Lion. I had the NKT Red Dot Sun Lion, but sold it a few months ago. Now I have a 2N527 Sunface and I’m considering another treble booster (probably a Beano Boost) to use as an EQ for my neck pickups. The Greer Pork N Beans is also tempting because of the secondhand price tag and as I understand it, Greer makes some really pedals.

OK...just goes to show you learn something new every day...I appreciate the info!
I've had my white dot Beano since '03...before the transistors became Unobtanium. It will definitely work in the situation you describe as well as give the front-end of your Wreck or Ghia a kick!

I have the Sunlion, low gain germanium. Perfect for what I like to hear tone wise and very controllable.

Do you also play a Wreck and Ghia?

It was mod'd by Josh Karnes of Revelation Amps...have a listen here... Scroll down to "Josh Karnes Audio Montage"

I’ll have to try and pull it up on my laptop later as it’s not reading the files on my iPhone. My two amps are the Wreck and Ghia. It’s a great pair.

Ever since I got the Jam pedals fuzz phrase I been really happy with the tone and sound of it. I had the sunlion and also tried the kingtone guitars mini fuzz with the NKT transistors. Analogman makes awesome fuzz pedals no question about it. I was very fortunate to find my Jam fuzz used for an awesome deal. It sounds huge it warm and fat and cleans up really well. Here is a description of the transistors they use in their Fuzz Phrase....
Fuzz Phrase ltd Description As our stock of Fuzz Phrase-compatible CV7003s is gradually depleting, we are proud to re-introduce it, celebrating its uniqueness and scarcity with point- to-point wiring housed in a luxurious leather enclosure.
The most crucial ingredient when it comes to a Germanium Fuzz pedal’s quality, sound and “clean- ability”, is transistor choice. In our experience there’s nothing quite like the CV7003, military-spec OC44 germanium transistors.
The few-and-far-between CV7003, are extremely consistent and heat-resistant, much more so than the AC128 and NKT275 transistors, placing the Fuzz Phrase in a league of its own. The CV7003’s consistency is so dependable that an external bias pot is rendered unnecessary. You are likely to never have to adjust the bias on your pedal!
Each individual transistor is measured for gain and leakage and then hand picked and matched through sound audition.
Along with the use of carbon comp resistors and tropical fish capacitors, the result is pure vintage fuzz goodness! Just mess around with the guitar volume to find the sweet spots, from clean, to rude, to devastating!
