...there's ALWAYS the speaker swap game to be played! Mine's come with a G12H30. I have a well broken-in Gold in another cab, but I'm also curious what the upcoming Celestion Ruby may sound like. We shall see! So far, pickin' and grinnin' big on the rig as it is! I don't know Mike Zaite's handle on Z-Talk (any help there is appreciated!), but I am very curious if Celestion has given him a preview of the Ruby for him to test out in his amps and, if yes, if he's allowed to speak on his experience and opinion with that speaker. Anyone reading who has the Doc's handle, hit him up for me

That pooch looks serious about the amp getting matched up with the right speaker!

I don't know about the Ruby but the Celestion Blue works great in a Ghia.

I don't know about the Ruby but the Celestion Blue works great in a Ghia. I've heard mostly good reviews of the Blue and Gold with a Ghia. I've got a well broken-in Gold, and I'm also curious how the Blue would sound with it. It's sheer curiosity that I reach for the Ruby first before the Blue. Ideally I'll test several speakers out. There will be swapping.

BTW - Doc's handle is DRZ - he is on here regularly (like every day).

If you've already got a well broken in Gold...I'd stick that in your Ghia and be done with it. Spend all that extra time practicing/playing. (In my opinion: anything but that G12H)

I second that! Thanks again Mike! I like the Blue and the Cream back, but it's GOLD for me.

I do like it with the stock speaker, but I'm always curious The Ruby won't be ready until July, so sayeth Sweetwater (and Celestion). I'll be trying out the Gold tonight. I did buy a V30 since that is the NEW stock speaker for the Ghia (when did that start, btw? Just curious). I'll try both the Gold and V30 out in the Ghia and the cab/amp from which my current Gold comes from, which is a 3rd Power rig, and I'll try the V30 there as well. Much to do, much to hear! Standby...

Yup, the G12 Gold is still my favorite all-around with the MAZ, too. I've probably tried at least a couple dozen different speakers with the MAZ over the years... A/B'ing one versus another using my Radial CabBone... shootout style where the winner becomes the new standard. I know Doc himself says (and Don at the shop implied it too) that the G12H-30 anniversary is the speaker for the MAZ; but I dunno, my ears & my playing just prefer the Gold in head-to-head live testing.

Okay, so out the gate the Gold is beating the pants off of the G12H30 for me. Maybe it's because I've settled on alnico speakers in most of the amps I've played and kept for a meaningful amount of time. It immediately felt right at home. I can't explain why, but when I get the camp really cooking and dig in on my Tele, SG, or LP Jr, it's just articulate, authoritative, bright without being harsh at all, and, perhaps the most useless descriptor I can use (but which makes a lot of sense to me when I hear it): vocal. I'm not getting a lot of low-end flub either, which was sometimes difficult to tame with my Maz 18 Jr NR combo that had the Blue in it. Sounds great cleaned up too, but I default to driving the amp one way or another and rolling back guitar's volume to get clean tones. This amp shines most being driven, IMO. Clean or mean, sounds more pleasing to me with the Gold.
I'll have the V30 in a few days, and it'll take a lot of hours to fully break it in, but more to come.

I think you'll like the Gold best, especially for P&W ;-) It's my favorite speaker in my Maz 18NR, Z-Wreck, and with my Therapy. Killer speaker.

Ah, crap... it appears my earlier post was regarding the MAZ. And, silly me, you've got a Ghia! (Well, I still stand behind my MAZ speaker comments.)
I did like the Gold with my Ghia, but for the longest time I was running it through a Weber Blue Dog, 30W, AlNiCo, light dope. Was great with that speaker. (As it turns out, my particular speaker shelved [filtered out] a TON of the extreme high-frequences--but in a good way.) It was a "softer" speaker to me, and I've always liked softer speakers with the Ghia. Two others that I'd highly suggest with the Ghia are the WGS Green Beret or the newer Celestion V-Type. Both great small-magnet, softer British speakers.

Even though I said put your gold in there and walk away....there have been many over the years that like the V30 in the Ghia. I personally have never tried it, but it's popped up enough on the forum to be noticed.
And if your V30 is new...it will take a long time to brake it in. And it will sound nasal before then.

I had the privilege of stopping by the Z shop three weeks ago. Bucket list moment! I mentioned the new Ruby to both Doc and Don. Neither of them seemed to be tracking too closely on it.

I liked the gold as well but it is gone. Sold to fund more gear at the time.
I have a WGS Vet 30 that I like quite a bit.
