I just got this yesterday and so far I’m loving it. The tones are very familiar and the reverb is great. Only change I did so far was swap out the sovtek 12ax7 in v1 to a jj to darken it up a little bit. It helped tame the highs for sure but I feel like I’ve lost some clarity. I’m looking for warm full and clear. I have a Dr Z 1x12 convertible cab currently loaded with the Celestion Red Back. It’s a 150 watt monster. Big lows, somewhat neutral mids, lots of highs but still smooth. I’m wanting something that will breakup and compress a little quicker. The red back has a ton of headroom and can sound a feel a little strident. I see that the combo is a available with either the g1265 or g12m65 is that what most are liking? I play strats and Tele’s, wanting warmth, smooth breakup and pedal friendly. What speaker and tube recommendations? Don’t be shy

If you want breakup that 65 celestion is great- it's pretty quiet in terms of DB so getting breakup at reasonable volumes is easy with that speaker.

I'm using a Z 2x10 cabinet with open back, with my EZG. I have one Z 10" speaker and a Celestion Alnico gold 10" in the cabinet. It sound great!
I don't have the bass mod on my amp, so the 10's seem to roll off a little of the bottom end.

Get yerself a 1x15 cabinet, slap an Eminence Legend 151 in there, and bask in the glory of the most righteous American-blues-rock tone in the history of American-blues-rock. With a Strat.

Mark's suggestion for a 1x15 for a Vibroverb feel sounds great!! I'd love to try the Z 4x10 with the Z Legend option as opposed to the standard Z10's for A Super Reverb feel.

I’m using strats and Tele’s so smooth high end is the name of the game for me...

I hadn’t event thought of this but that’s a great idea! I wouldn’t use a 15 all the time but man it’d be cool to have in the arsenal for sure!

I initially ran mine with a Z 4x10 cab, which was awesome, but then I switched to a Mather 1x15 cab with an Emi Legend 1518 that just killed. Fantastic rig, just too much amp for any of the gigs I was doing at the time.

Don’t be shy You can see this thread for more information on my quest for the best speaker using my EZG-50. I need to update that probably with this information. I really haven't found anything that sounds bad with this amp so my search is not motivated by being unhappy necessarily but rather by just seeing how good I find get it. What started my journey was getting the new Dr. Z 4x10 backline cab with the Dr. Z 10" speakers and feeling like I wanted more high end sparkle to sound more like a Super Reverb. Currently I'm in love with the Dr. Z 12" speakers with the EZG-50! I have one in a Dr. Z 1x12 convertible cab with the back open and love it. This is my go to for jams and small stage gigs. And I have two of them in a 2x12 Vox open back cabinet and it sounds even better. This cabinet is a little wider so I dont take it unless I have plenty of room. Another guitar player and I often share amp space on cramped small stages. I still love the older Dr. Z 4x10 cabinet with the golden colored grill cloth I mention in that thread linked above with the Dr. Z 10" speakers from Eminence. It really does sound different than my new Dr.. Z 4x10 although the speakers should be same. The old old must be more broken in or maybe I wonder if they have changed the speakers some over time. I'm not an expert on the changes you get when you break in your speakers over time so I don't know. I also love the EZG-50 with 16 ohm Celestion Gold in Dr. Z 1x12 open back and also the Celestion Alnico Cream 8 ohm in same 1x12 is great too. If these two alnicos were same ohm I would love to try them in 2x12. I think the Dr. Z 12" speaker gives a little more mid range presence and the Celestions are a little more scooped sounding so I like the Dr. Z in a band situation. Just playing in my living room for myself I might prefer the Alnicos. Really a tough call. I love them all. Interestingly I'm surprised the mid range pot on the EZG-50 doesn't do more when turned up. It's very subtle to my ears. I might like the Celestion Alnicos more if I could boost the mid range a little more. Man, I'm not an expert I'm just learning about speakers and fairly new to tube amps after playing through solid state Fender amps and Line6 digital effects for years. I have the EZG-50 and Maz 38 and a ton of different cabinets and speakers. And I've ditched the digital effects and gone all analog true bypass pedals so the last couple years has been a really fun learning experience for me. I know less about tubes than I do about speakers so I'm using the Dr. Z recommended tubes. I plan to do the "bass reduction" mod to my EZG-50 as I'm playing mostly with the bass pot all the way down on zero. If I dont like it I can easily reverse it.

I run my EZG50 with a 1x12 Celestion Gold in a closed back cab and it sounds excellent to me.
I started out with it in an open backed cab, but I found from time to time that being jammed into a corner at a gig up against a wall or other things there would be an odd quality to the overall sound sometimes, which I put down to some phase cancellation going on with the reflected sound. So I went closed back and that problem has disappeared.
Of course the speaker is quite directional (not a problem is mic'ed into the PA) but there is a chime and solid bottom end to this set up I really love. I also have a second speaker (the same) and can use them both if needed. Each is 16 ohms, so they are wired to be an 8 ohm load when connected together.
The Celestion Gold is a wonderful speaker and to my ears is made for this amp, retaining it's solid, tight sound longer than some others, if that's what you want of course. In the end I guess experimentation is the way to go!
Good luck on your journey.

I love my EZG with a 1x15 cab. Here’s a few speakers I tried with great results. Eminence Big Ben(probably my fave) Eminence Legend 151 Weber Michigan ceramic Weber Blue Dog alnico

I’d love to get a 4x10 Backline at some point. Seems like that would kill with the EZG

I’m leaning towards the g12 m65 creamback at this point. Anyone using this currently and can speak to it?

I’m leaning towards the g12 m65 creamback at this point. Anyone using this currently and can speak to it? I have a 2x12 with a Creamback M65 & Vintage 30. If I move over to the CB side I can get a good idea of what it sounds like by itself. Works really well with the EZG.
