If there is such a thing as an unexpected new guitar day, this was it. Saw this SoCo on craigslist locally...something that doesn't come up very often. I already have an incredible SoCo 16LC I got from Lee a number of years ago, so I didn't think too much about it. A couple weeks later it was relisted, at a pretty low price. Still wasn't too serious about it, but reached out to the seller to meet up to compare it to mine. Cool guy, ended up spending a couple hours at his place talking gear etc.
His SoCo was very cool - funny how different a guitar can be when it is only one inch smaller. He had upgraded the factory Lollar low-wind imperials with the ThroBak PG-102s (no magnet flip). Compared to mine with TV Jones and Bigsby, it was much growlier and thicker with more pronounced mids. Very cool. The price was very good but not an amount I had lying around.
Well 4 days later I get a message from him that he decided to drop the price by another $300 and I just couldn't pass it up. It emptied my slush fund, but I picked it up on my way to a gig Saturday afternoon and played it for the second set. Such a great guitar - but I had to fight the 11s on it as I am used to 10s. :)

Every Collings I've seen is a work of art in addition to being a great guitar. Congrats, Sean.

I think you picked a good fight. Any way that fight went, I'd say you won. Enjoy that new axe.

Really a sweet looking guitar, Sean. I've been thinking about dipping my toes into the Collings water. Maybe in the winter or spring...Congrats!

Been playing it everyday...and I think I understand what causes folks to sell their vintage stuff. This thing blows my '79 ES-335TD out of the water. And it is different enough from the orange one that I can see keeping them both.
I might be moving a couple guitars! :/
