I was 99% there.....I was going to put my 1978 ES335 up for sale at Z-fest. I've owned this guitar since 1980. I haven't played electric guitar in about 2 years, and I don't think I've played this guitar in about 4 years. But I pulled it out of the case yesterday to take these pictures....and it's just gorgeous. ...and the feel, the balance....I just can't do it. The 'white' binding is now a lovely shade of yellow, and it matches the wine red body.
I don't need the money, I was going to sell it because I don't use it. But I figure I'll play electric at some point again in my life. Oh, I will say, there are some 335's that have rounded horns, and some that have slightly pointier horns. It's a small distinction, but I really don't like the rounded horns. Pointy is the only one for me. And this guitar has the pointy horns. I've had it refretted, and there's no fretware. The finish was coming off the back of the neck so I had it refinished. There's just the slightest bit of buckle rash on the back from the previous owner. (back in the late 70's)
These aren't the best pics. And if you think it looks just like the guitar Paul-T played a few Z-fest's ago....yeah, he borrowed my guitar. (occasionally someone posts pics of him playing the guitar on the forum)

The day will come when you'll reach for that guitar. If it's gone, you will regret selling it, guaranteed. Don't ask me how I know.
Please tell me about the tailpiece.

Please tell me about the tailpiece.
TP-6 tailpiece. Adjustable tuners like on Floyd Rose. Heck, I didn't know they were so expensive!

Nice guitar, right decision John. You sell that you'll be losing a piece of your history. I like those more pointy ears too.

You did the right thing! I remember Paul playing it and thinking what a nice looking and sounding instrument it was. Didn't know it was yours at the time.

I'd still take it to Z-Fest, let it be played through the new line up of Z amps, then smile and take it back home!!

Keep it! Even if you just pull it out occasionally and marvel at the beauty, you gotta keep that one...

Yeah, you’d definitely regret letting that one go. Kudos to your wife!

That is a beauty. It would be a shame to sell it. Listen to your wife.

I wish I hadn’t sold mine to buy a Les Paul Deluxe. It was my first electric. I’d love to have it back. I’ve got a 1998 that I like a lot, but it’s not “the one.”

Don't do it John. My '71 will be a part of my son's inheritance. I rarely play and almost never gig my older guitars, but I won't sell them.
