I've gigged my month-old (to me) Z-28 four times, but yesterday was most interesting.
I was asked to provide live music entertainment for a service venue where I've performed on bass monthly for over five years. The situation? I *live* in the next county from the venue and the organizers knew I play guitar for another band—they felt they had probably tapped out the local bands. In order to say "thanks for all of the paying gigs over the years," I said I would pull together the music but the venue had to provide the PA. I also shared that in my county, most benefits are three bands for an hour a piece—rather than one band for three hours—when donating time. So: my band plus two other bands, I'm providing the backline and my drummer provided his drums. Easy-peasy!
Five Teles and a Strat ran through either the Z-28 or my Fender Twin RI. Both amps delivered spectacularly and I got to hear what they sound like a little more objectively. The amps were dialed in with the first band; one guitarist played in two bands and ran his board through both rigs (the Twin produced more audible compression for him when using his SP) and guitar playing is how he raises his family and pays his bills, so I enjoyed great playing as well. The first bands were country rock (think Eagles) and Americana. My band is a 3-piece cover cover band: we're kinda punkabilly, playing "Country Roads" (Jason and the Scorchers' version) or "Mrs Robinson" (Lemonheads). I have the Wampler Paisley Deluxe for overdrive...and I hit the front end with a Tumnus and/or Xotic EP.
My band was asked to turn down. I get it: I altered the dialed-in sounds (but I didn't think about this until the next day).
My question here is: does any other Z-28 owner notice a significant volume leap, rather than an even and gradual volume change, when turning the dial (for me) between 8:00 and 9:00?
Thanks
