I decided after some conversations between me and Dave (premiumplus (Dave)), to take my V30 out of the closed back Avatar cab and put it back into my blonde Z cab. I wanted to hear the Therapy through the V30 in an open back. Wow! It didn't disappoint. What a great combination! Highly recommended! This amp is so touch sensitive. At the gain level decribed below, it will clean up with light pick attack and screams when you dig in. Fantastic!
Next, I decided to compare that rig with my Cure. I mostly wanted to compare the gain between the amps. For this test, I had the Therapy set MV=9; B=9; M=2:30; T=2:30; V=4. I also have an Air Brake on 4 clicks. In order to get the Cure close, I had the V=4; MV=12; Level=10. I had the Tone bypass on full. With these settings, there was similar gain between the two amps. My Les Paul was the guitar used.
Results. They both sound great in their own way. The Cure is like a cranked up Blackface (Super Reverb maybe) with more gain and switching to the Thepary was like going to a roaring Marshall. Of course, the amps' designs and speakers are the differences here. Both amps are pleasing and sounded great with the Les Paul. I also set up the Cure for clean tone and the pair made for a great clean/dirty rig. The Therapy has more bass, but the Cure has a tighter low end. I still wonder how Doc was able to do that with 6V6s.
I then decided to run both amps in stereo with the aid of my Analogman Bi-Chorus. I set side A to Speed=9:30 and Depth=12. I turned everything on and my jaw dropped. They really sound fantastic together. I was surprised with these results. For some extra fun, I stomped on my Flying Dragon for some extra gain. I don't' need to say any more about that. You with the Dragons know how great they are.
In the end, both amps are great in their own way. I'm still getting to know this Therapy, so I'm sure I'll be in Therapy for a while!
Rock on!
