Having been mostly a Fender amp guy for a looooong time, how would folks categorize the mid-ness of a Maz Jr (reverb)? Is it a mid present amp, neutral, what's your description? I'm just curious where in the spectrum people place this amp.

With all the tone knobs at 12:00, I would say mid present amp. Some of that comes from the inherent nature of the EL-84s. Of course you can dial the mids down by backing off the control. There are Fenderish tones in there. I don't use them, but others here do. Doctorice has a tone chart that has some examples. As I remember, go in the low input, crank the bass and treble and back the mids all the way off. Or something similar. If you are looking for Twin Fender tones, look at other Z amps. If you want Deluxeish Fender, you can get close. Though the Maz is an amalgam of Fender, Vox and Marshall, I feel it leans more to Vox and Marshall.

Yes, mid present but in a good way, not an annoying way, and there's plenty of eq variation to be had. It does depend on what speaker you are using, and I agree there are definitely Fender-like tones to be had, but I always say my Maz amps do what I could never get my Fenders to do, and that is to get that on the edge of breakup thing without mushing out or sounding like they weren't built to do that.

You can dial almost any tone into the Maz. It's a reverse-modeler. Any sound you want, just one at a time.

Treble/10 mid/9 ish bass /12-1 cut/9-10 ish... volumes what your use to...but this setting with a strat kills.

Check out George Marinelli's Maz sounds with Bonnie - I know there are some pedals in there, but love his tele playing on this track:

Yup nice crunchy tele tones love it.
What is the 2nd Z head next to the Maz 18, it's too blurred to read for me?

Always Remember:
Speaker choice plays big here too as far as "Middy, scooped, or what..." A G12H30 will really scoop the Maz's tone whereas a V-30 will be "in-yer-faze" hi mids....

I'm not so much looking for Fender tones. I really like the balance of the amp and tend to bring the mids up a bit. I swapped out the stock G12H30 and am currently running a 35 year old speaker from an old Fender amp. The speaker is lower sensitivity and quite neutral. The challenge is always translating what you hear standing next to the amp, compared to the sound in the room - always looking for that balance without to much mud or highs...
