Got tired of lugging around a nearly 100lb 2x12. I'd been shopping for smaller amps when I realized the obvious - just rehouse my favourite amp instead of replacing it! Just got the new cabinet today. Looking forward to carrying the little studio 1x12 the next time I play out. Big shout out to Don for helping out, every time I've dealt with him or anyone else at Dr Z they've been great! Now I just need to figure out what to do with the old cab. Here's a pic of the old and the new side by side:

Great idea!! Man, i've been thinking about doing the same thing, but getting a standard 1x12 enclosure instead of the studio enclosure like you've got there! Let us know how the swap goes!!

I'm going to be looking for an empty standard 1x12 combo cab to rehouse my 2x12 38 and was wondering if they made this one for you or had it lying around or what? I'm not finding any in the used market right now, though i know they pop up every once in a while.

Either my first or second Z amp was a 2x12 Maz Jr. What a great amp. But....let's just say I didn't need to lift weights at the gym after moving it.
I haven't thought about that amp in a while. I kind of miss that amp. If I still had it, I'm sure I would have replaced those G12H30's for a pair of greenbacks.

That amp is going love that new shell.
I bet it’s like a whole new amp, or like a new friend that just dropped 78 pounds.

in addition to the weight loss, you will enjoy the tilt back of the speaker too. It will help you hear yourself. Nice looking cab! Todd

I'm reminded of one of those diagrams showing how we age or sumpin sumpin like that progressing to caveman or something. I can see a guitar player one starting out with full Marshall stack, to one 4x12, combo 2x12, combo 1x12, ultra lite combo, head/1x12 cab, and finally, ... just an acoustic guitar. Maybe add a uke after that. I'm about at the head/cab phase.

I get that 2x12 to 1x12 will be different but overall, presence, depth, all that good stuff.

Sorry for showing up to this thread late, but I had to comment based on something we saw at Z-Fest...
Among all the latest fancy, new, and limited or pre-production amps on stage, Doc also had Buddy play through a MAZ Jr. 2x12 combo. He commented that he understands that most people wouldn’t order the MAZ Jr. in that setup (it’s freakin’ heavy, of course), but he just loves it because it “kicks a$$.” It certainly did!
