My Plus shipped with a Creamback. It sounded great, no doubt. But after some back to back with my JAZ, loaded with a WGS G12 C/S. I did a swap. It ain't coming out. Ordered another one to replace the stolen speaker in my JAZ. I love this speaker. While the G12 C/S didn't do much for me in the Ghia or Maz, it is a perfect fit for my styles in the JAZ/LUZ/Plus style amp. Super happy. Gonna be a long night with the Plus.

$89.00? hmmm. I might have to try this for my Z Plus. I was thinking a cream back instead of my Blue. It just takes so long to brake in a blue!

What would you think about the WGS G12Q and its 95dB? It’s only 20W, but it’s supposed to break up nicely...

Didn’t get along with the stock Z 12. To be fair, I didn’t really give it time for a proper break-in, but since I had my Celestion A-Type I rolled it in. Nice speaker for the Plus IMO.

To follow up. After some time with the Type A I changed my mind. Even though it’s designed to have an “American “ sound, it still sounds like a Celestion. More mids then what I expect and less upper end extension. Also tried it in my JAZ and it was even worse. I’m still not crazy about the Z12, but like I much better than the A. I also tried the Z12 in my JAZ and like it better in the Plus.
I’m currently using a Jensen C12N (Italian made) I the JAZ which seems to get allot of bad press, but it’s my favorite so far in this amp. Haven’t tried it in the Plus yet, but I will. I also ordered a WGS G12C. I realize it’s brighter than the C/S, but that’s what I’m looking for. Tough decision choosing between the WGS speakers, but since I like the C12N thought this was a good starting point.
So I only play at home, although in a pretty good size room where I can crank it a little. And I’m an amateur playing for fun and chorded rhythm is mostly what I play. my requirements and opinions will likely differ from those who play out and do allot of lead work. For me, clean, detailed and harmonically rich, and touch sensitive are what I’m primarily looking for. I want to hear the small nuances. Rarely do anything with heavy distortion, but do like the sweet spot where it just starts to break up a little.

I jam on occasion but am mostly a home player as well. I mostly agree on the Type A. It still has a Celestion flavor to it. But it does bring some lows and sparkly mids. I love it in my Princeton. I'm running a 30 Watt Scumback Scumnico in my Z Plus and couldn't be more happy with the tone. It's a pricier option, but no more so than other alnicos on the market and is handmade here in SoCal with a break in done at the factory. I found it to be a great match for the Plus with a bigger bottom and slightly less highs than a Celestion Blue. You might want to take a look. They make other well reviewed speakers too: www.scumbackspeakers.com/scumnico.html

I have the regular Z speaker. I swapped it out for a Celestion Creamback per recommendation from another thread. I took it out after 10 minutes. It wasn’t “bad” per se, but I liked the Z-branded Eminence waaaaay better.
Since many of the demo videos (Dave Baker, Premier Guitar) are using the Celestion Blue, I think I will try a WGS Black & Blue next. Comments or opinions?
