Uh...well, there was a Red Galaxie head in the BS&T section last week.......well it was sold and is in Texas now. I thought it would only be a matter of time. You know we are all expecting a review So has the first channel got that Roy Buchanan tone with a tele? I've got money on you buying the EZG-50/Evan when it's released.

Very lil time with it as I came home from my week long trip with some serious 'crud' Been in da bed or bathroom mostly, but; Both channels are quite useable, cnl 1 needs to be set about 1/4 turn higher than cnl 2 for a nice transition with slight boost. Amp is not as loud as I recall from Z Fest, so it will be very giggable for me, sounds nice through a Tone Tubby but I prefer a G12H so far of what I have here, not tried the Z Best yet. The Galaxie and Stangray and puttin' big grins on my face. Has quite a different 'feel' than other Z's, less top end and a different bottom, let percussive. Seems like it'll be a sweet slide amp also, could be the 'No Pedals" amp I've been looking for.

The Galaxy, to me, is what a Tubescreamer would be if it were an amp - very TX flavored. Tweed clean and a Tubescreamer gain/lead. Very fat mid, rolled off highs, and a soft-to-cut (ala Tubescreamer) bass. Cool amp for sure. A Stangray A/B'd with the Galaxy for a live rig - all you'd need is a comp and a Phase90...maybe a delay for some slap-back if you wanted to get really fancy! ;D

Thanks for the quick review Curt.
Sorry to hear your not feeling 100%.
Get well soon so you can fire those new Z's up and tell us more.
I'm really looking forward to Doc's release of his other 6L6 offering, the suspense is killing me.

Finally got to try'er out with the band at practice tonight with my ol Blue Strat...man what a tone on cnl 1..whew, NICE Needed dirt boxes for a lil umph but it sounded better straight in, what a blues tone..WOW ! I have all old glass in her, 6l6WGB's cut the output a bit and laid it right in the ballpark power wise for me, installed old RCA 7025's in all 3 pre slots and an oldie 5U4...sweet mother of TONE, then into the ToneTubby...I was blastin away, finally gave the courtesy of asking "Am I too loud" fully expecting "Yes", but got "No' !! And she was COOKIN" !! Good glass and the Tone Tubby = no harshness or spikes, sweet, sweet amp this'n.

So do you think this is going to be your grab and go for blues rig?
What kind of styles are you playing through it?
There hasn't been a whole lot of talk here on the forum about this model as compared with the Doc's other EL84 newly released models. Has it got the whole tweed vibe going on? I'm really keen on hearing more about the Galaxie but it seems pretty quiet in this part of the forum.

George, I really liked the 2x10 combo we got to play at Z Fest 'pre release', but was affraid it was too powerful for my gigs. I had a chance at one and jumped...and I am VERY glad I did.
It is quite different than other Z's, I'm no tweed expert, but this is more refinded than what I have seen from a Tweed. 'Feels' a lot like the '68 Pro/SF Vibrolux (w/5U4's) to me and how I set it up, to me, equally beautiful cleans as the ray, just vastly different cleans.
Strat neck pup> channel 1 is a sweet PHAT blues tone with tons of character, pedals I've tried don't enhance the tone, like the 'Ray the tone is so good you really can't enhance it. But you can add some grunt for a nice controlled feedback which I happen to employ quite a lot, not Johnny A alot, but still quite a bit.
I was digging the amp, but wanted to see in a full band situation and it passed with flying colors. Did not take the ft sw so never used channel 2 last night.
The Galaxie is a gem of an amp IMO, I am really suprised at how many are on the used market. with the vast tube options, rec options, bias adjustment variables and speaker selection this amp is highly tuneable...killer, killer old school amp.

I'm really diggin whatcha saying Curt. I;m thinkin this thing could really nail all that "swamp" rock I love. You mentioned SF Vibrolux, I had an oldie like the one you purchased a couple of years ago and regretted selling it because it nailed those tones perfectly.
The galaxie and stangray certainly ain't helping my GAS much.
I gotta wait until June for a new amp but I can see where Im headed.
Thanks mate.

Yes sir George, this with a nice Alnico 15" and a trem pedal, perhaps some 'verb....SWAPY as you can get ! I whipped out the slide last night, had some delay set for a touch of slap for a verbish vibe, clicked on the Jeaurnig twin rate trem and Ry Cooder tone FILLED the room ! We had a new booking agent hangin' around and he said ; "That was some mighty good Rev. Willie G stuff there Curt " PHAT, PHAT tone..so very different than EL84's. HAs Tony sent you any of his stuff he lays down @ home?? mile wide groove and swampy as h$ll?? THIS is THE amp for that vibe fo'Sho.

Tony and I are great buddies. He's been sending me lots of his stuff since we met on the forum a little while back. I've been trying to talk him into a Route 66' and airbrake as hes looking for "bluesbreaker" tone and reasonable volumes.
You are are really getting me excited bout' this amp Curtis. Kinda wish I had some funds right now as there is one on ebay but I'm kinda broke after the honeymoon.
Thanks again for the rap on the galaxie. I'm really looking forlots of cleans in my next Z ala the KT or a little less volume in the Ray' but I could get sidetracked if the right deal comes up as I still have my Maz that can cover those grounds.

Make no mistake, mine sounded GREAT right out of the box with it's GT 6L6GC's #4 and Ruby 12AX7 pre's, I just tuned it to 'me' with stuff I had around here...and it got better for 'me', that alone is crazy..that it got better than the great it already was stock !

Hope to have a good answer on that later this week ... am hopin' to play-out on Thursday Personally, I have found my Strat and LP (both loaded with Duncan pick-ups) are good and think my Super Sports (dual Dimarzio 'buckers - one maple 'board and one rosewood 'board) are really good with the Galaxie ...
