pick one up and I'm impressed!! Im normally all analog all the time and I like simple. This Fractal isn't in the simple world, yet it is ok once you learn a few things..
I was Using my Cure with the 4cm method and was getting stunning results.. Now if I was just playing blues Id just use an amp, but I write music and like to have different sounds but also concrete solid basic sounds.. I can get great od pedal sounds, reverbs, delays...right out of the box.. You do have to tweak the sounds and it was easy with the software edit. You can literally make several pedal boards and make all sorts of sounds..
I made a few sounds that were the prettiest sounds I ever heard come out of an amp..
Super quite and the sounds are awesome especially because you still use your fav tube amp so the feel is there.. Im excited to tweak out a few pedalboards and use it live.. I know its digital but this is a great unit. I was able to make my od sounds identical to my analog pedals. and just make new sounds too..
there is a learning curve and this unit could scare a lot of people, but if you try one you have to tweak the knobs till it sounds right, and you can make it sound right!! Once you get the sounds all set you can save them and done ... I will still keep my analog pedals for now, I have to see how i like it live first... Ill be keeping this for recording and practice its a killer tool!!!
I ended up getting the fx8 not the fx8 mkii basically the same unit but the mkii is the upgrade... one thing I didn't like was the wah function.. my wah sounds better and the control is better, but I didn't tweak the fractal wah either.
Ill try tweaking it to replicate my full tone wah and see if it can get there. The sound of the auto wah sounds good..

Yes, their stuff is great. I've been an Axe-FX and AX8 user for years. I'm sure the FX8 is fantastic. Very flexible and incredible sounding effects and emulations.

I'd be interested in hearing how it's modulation fx compare to pedals. I had an Eventide Modfactor that sounded great by itself, but when you a/b'd it to pedals, it couldn't get there. For example, I never could get it to sound close to a Phase 90 nor an older gray box MXR Flanger. Even it's Chorus couldn't compete with my mid-80's Ibanez CS-9.

The effects are the same in my AX8 and I can tell you it is the main reason many pedals have been for sale and out the door. For me getting even 70-80% of the way to a pedal is great (though I think many are much closer to 95%!) and not having to deal with power issues, patch cables, etc makes it all worthwhile.

Yeah for modulation fx Id need an actual pedal and a/b them. I dont have any to compare. But for sure the analog pedal has a certain sound Especially if its like a pog or something. But delay and reverb sound fantastic. And i swear my od sounds are identical. Im new to Fractal and looking down and seeing a digital display makes me not want to hear tings right. But when i walk away and just listen to the sound Its there. To me. Also you could potentially dial in any sound there is alot you can tweak. And my assumption is people probably give up or dont try to tweak until you find what you are looking for. Im still no fan of all the tweaking but i have a whole pedal board created and dont need to tweak now that its saved!! There is a place for both in my book. But time will tell- I haven’t used my analog pedalboard since setting the fx8 up. Except to a/b tones.

Ok Ive had this fractal FX8 for a few months and it truly has great sounds in it— but alas I went back to my analog pedals. I realized i was only using delay from the fractal and did not need this whole unit for that. So its a tweekers dream- im not a big tweaker!! Im just going to find a good delay pedal and I wont miss the fractal- It was just a whirlwind romance!

Every time I've gone digital I end up coming back to simple tube amps and pedal boards. I've spent hundreds of hours tweaking different digital products and it ends up driving me nuts (or nuts-er)! I'm sure ear fatigue plays into it, but I'll get a patch sounding just right only to come back the next day and decide that it sucks. Then I'll spend more time at it, and decide it's good, then come back later and it sucks some more. I can't ever seem to get happy enough with a tone or patch to leave it be and play it. I have a couple of programmable amps, a Mustang III that I can get pretty good tone from, but then again, I come back and I'm dissatisfied. So I plug into my Z-Lux or my Cure...or any other Z amp, and I'm good to go. I don't think I'm a good prospect for digital. I dig Doc's amps for their simplicity and the fact that I can't screw their tone up!
Sorry, didn't mean to hijack a good thread!

If I was still recording I would consider a digital unit though. But I would only use it for recording I like the organic warm tone that analog pedals and tube amps provide. It’s just my personal preference.

I was getting great sounds that I enjoy but they just werent the sounds i was use to. So i was only using delays. You can edit till your death. And just wasn’t interested in tweaking any more.
