I've noticed a couple of times a loud buzzing sound coming from my red Z-Lux (an amp Doc's well acquainted with at this point) when the standby switch is flipped to the "up" position--I thought it might be coming from my wah pedal, since that's the most recent addition to my signal chain. Had a loud pop-then-buzz just now, quickly switched off the amp, disconnected the wah, restarted the amp, which made the noise again, followed by a noticeable burning/melting smell. Switched it off again, then back on--and now it's functioning normally, or at least it was a few minutes ago. I'll see if I can get it to reproduce the issue plugging straight in, but I don't think that smell was coming from my pedalboard. Any thoughts, y'all?

Tried it just now with nothing plugged into the input jack. Same issue--loud pop followed by hum/buzz and smell. Leaving town in a bit and won't have a chance to futz with it til next weekend, probably. Still, any suggestions would be appreciated. I know, I know--tap on the tubes.

It's the smell part that worries me the most. No expert here, but if it was a tube issue, I would think it wouldn't give off a bad odor, since all the hot bits are sealed up in a vacuum bottle. If you feel comfortable taking the chassis out, you might carefully look it over for a component that looks toasted. Definitely get a hold of Don when you get back. Have a safe trip & good luck with the amp.
