So, about 2002 I was playing in a band and we started playing a bunch of 80s rock tunes opposite of our top 40 country tunes (Tim, Garth, Brad, B&D, Keith Urban and Whitley, ect...). The 80s stuff started going over better than the country at that time, so we decided to give the 80s rock a full-time try. We also played some Blink 182, Nickelback, Metallica, ect...So not entirely 80s, but mostly. The 80s stuff was all pretty guitar driven "hair rock", or "glam rock".....Lots of Bon Jovi, Poison, Warrent, LoverBoy, WhiteSnake, and some more "pop" style stuff, like INXS, Huey Lewis, John Cougar, ect.... So, I had a plethora of "rock amps", mostly Mesa, to play these shows.....Right before I got into Dr. Z amps, in about 2006. So, I'd use a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier, 3ch amp, a couple of 2x12 or 4x12 cabs, and a Tubescreamer for a full night of songs and have no problems getting the sound I wanted. I rarely needed clean tones in this band. We broke up in late 2006 and I went on to play more country style music (Outlaw/Red Dirt/Southern Rock style), so Dr. Z amps worked perfect for this. Well, tomorrow (Friday 10/20/2017), we're having a pretty big reunion show..... This time around, the Stingray & 1x12 Z cab will be my main amp (my AC15HW1 will be there too)! Along with about 6 Overdrive and distortion pedals. I was a little skeptical at first, but after a few rehearsals there was NO DOUBT that I could still get the "in your face" guitar tones with my Ray and those pedals. Hopefully someone will record it so I can post video/audio of the show somewhere?? This is my, almost, current pedalboard: The Nova Delay has been replaced by a Wampler "The Doctor" delay pedal. Anyways....Rock on!

I spy with my little eye a JHS AC and a Paisley drive. Hard to beat those two pedals with a Ray! There is something about that Ray that is so special!

Oh yeah, the Ray definitely can rock. In the country/classic rock bands I was in, I would strap on my Les Paul and kick on my BB Preamp pedal for the classic rock tunes. Sounded great in 1x12 or 2x12 open back Z cabs.

Here's one video...... The video recorder we bought to record the show died on the first song, so I just stuck my cell phone on top of the speaker and hoped I got us all in the frame. Besides the four, 2-hour rehearsals we had the past month, this is the first show we've played together in 11 or 12 years....So, please ignore the mess up's. I know I list my gear in the video, but here's what I used: Amp: Stingray and 1x12 Dr Z cab with a Tone Tubby Red Alnico - Mic'd with a Shure SM-57 Non-mic'd amp: AC15HW1 Dirt pedal: XTS Atomic Overdive (my favorite distortion pedal) Guitar: Peavey Wolfgang Special If you hear any delay, that's the Wampler "The Doctor" delay.
