LOVE the Maz sound, but I love a lot of sounds.. I love Vox AC30 sounds too but much too loud for my applications. I want that Maz cranked sound but also like some chimey clean every now and then. Now, I figured out that the AC30 volume issue had to do with the speakers being Celestion Blues, cause when I tried it with greenbacks it was much more manageable. but I have a hard time gauging amps volume. Like, my Remedy on 40 watts has to be SUPER loud to get the tone I want but my 60 watt Mesa can be much quieter and my 35 watt Supro has to be even louder than the Remedy, It's confusing!!
SO! I know the Maz's are loud, but I'm thinking about a Maz 18 Reverb combo turned up enough for some nice breakup with my Klon or Tube Driver in front for lead boost? Is that gonna be insanely loud to the point of just getting a Maz 8? OR A Maz 38 for epic cleans and y'all gimme some suggestions of drive pedals to put in front. (Thinking Black Crowes/Magpie Salute level of drive, not saturated)

What size venues do you play? I had a Maz 18 NR head and I was never able to open it all the way up. It does have a great master volume, but even with a Brakelite I wasn't able to really get it cooking. I sold my 18, my wife picked up a Maz 8 Studio Combo for me and I'm glad she did. The pentode will get you Vox at 8 watts while the triode cuts it down to 3 watts and is more toward Fender territory. The 8 is the most flexible amp I've owned but again it depends on what size venues you play at - even though you could mic it!

Biggest venue I'd play besides outdoor gigs would be bout the size of a high school gym, maybe 600-700 people AT MOST

I'm digging my Maz 8, I use a clean boost, a color and an OD.
I think that if you set up your boosts correctly that amp can fit with a light rock in without being mic'd, in a mid size closed venue.
I like running it near full throttle with the Wampler Tumnus as color. The natural distortion is really tasty and I can get it quiet or loud without an issue.
Tough call

The only issue would be if you really wanted/needed a real clean tone at a larger venue.

At least that's what Joe said

The Maz 18 is my favorite Maz. Just something special about that 2xEL84 design.

I never played anywhere where I could open up my Maz 18. My Maz 8 is perfect for small clubs and Church.

I was referring to the experiment that Dr. Z and Joe Walsh did with Joe's Maz 8. They added a second EL84 and wired them in Parallel. That is the platform for the Z Plus. I am not anticipating that to be a MOD for the Maz 8, but it would be fun. BV

So all in all, my ideal amp would be a combo that gets sweet smooth sustaining drive at medium club/church volumes, effects loop, cuts through the mix easily, and doesn't weigh as much as a BF Twin (i.e. Mesa). We do play at quite loud stage volume to be fair, my amps always behind plexiglass. So would the Maz 8 be THAT amp or are there any other suggestions? Cure??

Is your drummer in a drum booth? Are you using floor monitors or IEM? My 18NR is in a enclosed cabinet with a mike. I can crank it without issue, and we do run pretty loud in the house - about 95-98 DB I am told. With two clicks on brake lite, and putting it behind the plexi shield, I think the 18NR would be great but it could be perceived loud, as it really cuts thru the mix well. Haven't had chance to demo the 8, although the studio combo is very enticing compared to head and cab I currently lug around. I am using Z-12 speaker, and prior to that C-Gold. Hope this helps you find what you are looking for. cheers.

And everyone uses IEM besides me, I like being able to hear the dynamics and my actual amp.

I would wait about two weeks.
1. Immediate liquidation of otherwise perfect amps when the Z Plus arrives
2. Reports on the Z Plus will be in,
3, No need for reports. If you need to be in between the 8 and 18 with capability to go loud or quiet, the Z Plus might be right.

Purple - two weeks? Anything else you can share, like price, format, etc? I have to avoid the onset of GAS. Others know and have posted much more about the amp. But for brevity, November 1st. Combo only. Red Not Available so @irreversal has to sit out another amp. Just kidding, that would be cruel to think that a red combo is not available, right? Price $2K range I'm out!! Therapy and Maz 8!! And my own creations

Is there any reason not to suggest Monza...looking for sweet smooth sustain...capable volumes.
