Had some "loud time" today with the Z28. Set it up as a clean pedal platform(1130-930-930) and 0lugged my OTHER amps pedal board into it. The other amp is a 1966 Fender Super Reverb, which is fairly different than the Z28. These 9 pedals have been carefully chosen and painstakenly dialed in to be perfectly tweaked with the BFSR. I have their knobs marked.
Anyway, the entire board sounded amazing thru the Z28, and I didn't need to change a single thing! Not surprising for the comp, delay, chorus or Univibe, but there are 4 dirt pedals that all sounded perfect. Fulltone Fat Boost3 and FD2, a BB Preamp and a Wilson Effects Fuzz(pimped out Tone Bender circuit). Thats awesome!

It takes dirt pedals tremendously. It doesnt love all of them because of how it's EQd of course but it takes them very well. 11:30 on the volume is a crunchy tone with my Z-28 (stock) and Telecaster, definitely not crystal clean. Do you lower guitar's volume or pick softly?

No, my pickups are normal height and I have a heavy pick hand really. 1130-930-930 with a strat was clean on mine, but right on that edge. 12-10-10 Had the beginnings of OD with picking hard.

Ok, so edge of breakup and not crystal clean. We all have different ideas of "edge of breakup" but as long as you can get clean tones rolling off the guitar's volume and/or picking softly, it counts as "edge of breakup" for me. I consider edge of breakup the point where you hear just a little touch of grit when picking really hard at full guitar's volume, but it's just me. I can hear that on my Z-28 even at 9-9-9 but it's easy to get good clean tones even on 11-10-10 picking softly.
My pickups are not raised too much, I play a 1975 Telecaster (all stock).

I like my clean tone to be clean with normal picking, hint of hair with hard picking, and this was. 11-930-1030 with the BL on 2 clicks with a strat is even better. I don't think I said Crystal clean, but clean to me. Mostly clean. Wouldnt call it edge of breakup though. To me thats, hit em hard, its overdriven, strum softly and its clean, with the gtr vol full on. My strat is an old G&L Legacy with SDuncan SSL pickups, which are low output. My tele with Fralin Blues Specials is hotter, my OTHER tele even more so.
