Hi! New z28 player here! Been GASing for a z28 forever and finally picked one up this week, a 1x10. I own a Route 66 since a few years and I was not sure the z28 would impress me anymore but it really did! The R66 is wonderful but sometimes a bit too much on the dark side. And really loud. The z28 will be much easier to fit into most of my playing situations. Great tone and response. Found myself playing chords for hours on my strat. And stopped tweaking pedals all the time. Sweeet!
I noticed my amp has three plastic plugs covering holes on the back side of the chassis. What is that? Is that stock? Has this amp been tinkered with? I didn't´t get a particularly good deal, these amps are RARE in Sweden. (Serial no begins with a W. Built in 2013 or what?)
Also, there's no difference between red label or blue label Z red fangs, right?

doc uses a generic chassis for several different amps and plugs the holes that aren't used, so it could be stock. can you look for pics of other Z28s and see if they have the plugs?

You got me curious. Two on mine. A larger one next to the AC cord and a smaller one on the end past the last output jack.

Here's my guess !
Your amp is a 2012 (W serial). I suspect at some point Doc's small chassis was updated with three holes for 4/8/16 speaker outs (perhaps the tranny was upgraded).
As well, the hole on the far right (from the rear) seems to accommodate a Z-Verb foot switch (same chassis).
I guess we don't notice them now as all post UL-rated amps have the rear back plates.
Maybe?
