I have a few non-reverb amps that have three AX7 tubes in the preamp section, but they are EL 84 amps.
The Cure is a 6V6 amp and has two AX7 tubes and one AT7.
What is the function of the AT7 in a non-Reverb amp?

I use the 12 AT7 in the Phase Inverter Position as a lower gain tube to tame beasts.

Brian is correct, also all Blackface Fenders use the 12AT7 as PI's. A bit cleaner , a bit glassier, less Mid drive then a 12AX7 in the PI. That is why I used decided on the 12AT7.

Old thread here but just bought a 6v6 Cure and was wondering if the V3 AT7 can be replaced with a 12AX7... also can the rectifier on these be replaced with a 5y3 or 5u4? I believe I've seen you say 5y3 is fine but figured I'd get the definitive word. Disregard... Looks like I found my answer on yet another thread... thought I went thru them all, lol
I am reading that yes... In 6V6 Cure, AX7 is fine in V3 as is 5y3 or 5u4 in rectifier. If thats incorrect let me know otherwise have an amazing day!
Thank you for all the great amps!!

Tried the AX7 in the PI and definitely prefer the AT7. Never question the doc!
