I've never tried any of the various tube dampers available since I've been lucky enough to not need them. I've had a little rattle in some tubes but not enough to really bother me. However, the Russian power tube in my MAZ 8 is irritating so I've been looking for a cure. I've worked on some amps that had the elastic rings on them and I couldn't hear much difference between them off or on. I've looked at some other options and decided on these: herbiesaudiolab.net/guitar.htm I know they are a little pricey but my MAZ 8 only has one output tube. I just received it and will try it out later today. I want to give it a week or so before I give a review. I'm thinking another one might be good on V1 since I have a combo. Edit: The link doesn't seem to be working so you will need to go to the site on your own.

Hey, this thing works so far. I need to get creative and figure out a way to get it and the tube retainer on at the same time though. Or maybe I don't really need the retainer.
Anyway, the rattle is definitely gone. This may be my imagination but the sound seems clearer too. Even when overdriven the notes of the chords have more definition. No kidding. Some in the hi-fi crowd swear by these.

They actually do help, a lot, in some situations. Usually it's an improvement, and I've never heard anything negative. I use 'em, and Doc's a believer too. A lot of my Z amps came with them stock.

I’ve used the ones Eurotubes sell, they look like extra thick versions of what Dr Z uses stock. They work well.
