The 6 hour definitive documentary on the Grateful Dead. I watched the first hour last night and will continue watching today.
As a big deadhead, i can say almost all of the video and interviews are new to me so far. I hope that it will be illuminating to the uninitiated.

I am not much of a Dead Head, but I certainly love to learn new information re my favorite artists. The Internet has been very great re that, and I could spend hours rabbit trailing an artist re his or her influences, thoughts and opinions!
Enjoy your day Ian!!

I just saw a picture of Scofield holding it backstage at the auction concert. Hopefully some video will surface of that.

I'm the same way with music documentaries. It doesnt really matter to me whether I'm into the music.... i just rewatched the Anvil documentary and it was just as compelling the second time. And i dont thinkive heard Anvil' s music outside of the film. If you have any interests in American counter culture, there should be some tasty morsels to enjoy here. Cheers!

I was never a Tom Petty fan, though I couldn't argue with his hit making magic, but after watching "Running Down a Dream" as well as Rush's " Beyond the Lighted Stage" documentary, and even "Sound City" re Dave Grohl's part in saving the Neve, I became big fans of them because of the documentaries. So much insight re their upbringing and attitude re music.

Well, that was a long strange trip.... (here are my strange thoughts)..
the episodes are mostly in chronological order but occasionally circles back on itself to pick up other story lines/details... but it also leaves some things unsaid and unexplained which felt a bit weird. Nothing really stood out to me in the first 3 episodes (other than lots of great interviews and that almost all of the source material used in this entire documentary was previously unseen and unheard). as a deadhead, episode 5 was the most enjoyable (subject matter being Deadheads). This episode also had the most live performance footage. episode 6 mostly focused on the demise of Jerry. episode 4 had quite a bit of Wolf featured in it.
I know a lot of people don't get the dead or deadheads but maybe you have to get beyond the cultural distractions and simply listen to the music and let it speak for itself.
