Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone has tried the 2x10 with these speakers installed, compared to a previous 2x10 without the Z 10 inch speakers? I was also wondering, when did this update occur? Thanks.

My Maz Jr has the newer Dr Z special designed 10's and I am really impressed with these speakers. Before I received the amp, I had planned on replacing the speakers first thing or using one of my 2x12" extension cabinets (I have several 2x12 combinations to choose between). But, truth be told, I actually like the internal Dr Z 10's the best.
They can get a bright, clean tone, but also a tone that is surprisingly warm for a ceramic speaker. They are not overlly harsh, like some ceramic's.

I added a new DR Z 2x10 cab for my Maz JR NR head. Still breaking them in, but totally impressed. Plenty o' bottom with this set up, unbelievable tone complexity and plenty o' volume!!

I agree. No Emminence or Celestions or Tone Tubbys', etc have had the same impact on any amp I've heard the way the Z speakers do. Somebody got it right... to my ear anyway

Originally, Z used Celestion Vintage 10's in his 2 x 10" MAZ 18's. This was probably 5 years ago, maybe more. I have heard both. In fact, when I worked at a Z dealer, I had a customer of mine bring his older MAZ 18 210 in to have the Z speakers put in as an upgrade. Z only did this because I guaranteed him it they were going into his amp and no other! We compared the Celestions to a newer Z MAZ 18 amp with the Z 10's and then made the swap. In all comparisons, the Z speakers flat out killed the Celestion 10's. I have plugged so many other manufacturer's amps into Z cabs with 10's, and everytime, its an improvement over the stock 10's. This includes Jensens, Webers, Celestions, etc. The only other aftermarket 10" speaker that comes close is the Emminence Ramrod, which makes sense, since Emminence plays such a huge role in Z's 10" speaker. But, Z does something special with his 10" speaker, no doubt about it, because NO other 10" sounds as good as his, especially when broken in.

"Z only did this because I guaranteed him it they were going into his amp and no other! "
See, this is what I love about guys like Z and others who have product integrity. Good on Doc and all others who stand up for the pride they have. It's usually well earned.

Quick postscript regarding my purchase of Z's 2x10 cab. I emailed him about which cab to buy and even mentioned I was considering the Z-Best which is about $300 more. The Good Doctor prescribed me to have him build and ship me the 2x10. In addition to the fact that the 2x10 is the perfect cab for the Maz 18, the Doc did not try to up sell me just for a bigger sale. That my friends, is a business man with true integrity. Thanks Doc, I'm a customer for life
