I've had the Cure for awhile now and feel very satisfied with the purchase. This amp really is different than other Z amps I've had and I definitely see it being a gateways amp for his product line. The TRIAD transformer is a beautiful work of art in and of itself.....the amount of character it adds along with the old school grainy compression is a uniquely familiar sound at once. Where the Therapy had a crystal clear note definition this amp lends a very " bucket brigade analog " feel to the very American vibe it has.
I can really appreciate the more subtle B M T expression - After owning the Therapy for a couple years I thought I would miss the vast EQ sweep which puts out any sound I could ever imagine.....but the ease of use factor keeps me in a bit of play mode rather than fiddle the EQ mode - something I most loved from the Ghia .
The ZVERB sounds perfect with this amp in the Loop....and looks handsome on top. I LOVE the variable boost....It sounds good with every guitar just like every Z I've had but I play it most with my Swampkaster Tele knockoff.
This amp can be airy and crystal with scooped out mids....lower the Treble and crank the mids and bass now your in brownface -Harvard -Tweed esk....the Bass is great and can clean up or mud up the sound. Anything American and I can get close to it.....low bass and treble with cranked mids lends to a bit Marshall flavor but I'm no expert on what defines those tones for everyone. Close enough for my taste.
A great way to play is with the EQ BYPASS left on and adjust your Master and Volume to your desired loudest.....then just use volume on the guitar to treat the amp like a single channel amp. Lower the master to warm the sound when you crank the volume up.
Still love this amp and look forward to every note.
