I hate to confess this publicly but the truth is, I rarely practice with an amp. Most days, I play my electric unplugged. I really don't know why. Maybe I got tired of the kids and the wife "asking" me to turn down. I do practice with an amp at my teaching studio but it is a cheap solid state Kustom amp. The band has been off for two months and I packed my Z-Lux away after the last show. Today, however, I set her up and plugged her in and OMG! The Z-Lux sounds so fantastic. I think I just may change me wicked ways and start practicing WITH an amp!

Man! I do that all the time. I'll sit my butt down in front of the TV and just play scales and whatever while the Mrs and I watch TV. It helps to keep some rust off the fingers. It's not as good as playing with a band, but it's good in-between. Don't change those wicked ways. Keep those fingers moving!

I might know of a Cure for the home amp situation. A lot of great players say practicing without the amp help with chops more than with because the distractions of cool amp tones don't cover up bad fingers. But the Cure is a great house amp...the Level control works wonders

He even tried to figure out what key the jet flying overhead was in - now there's determination.

I've found the Z-Lux set very quietly is great for practicing. My ears got used to -- and liked -- low, low volume.

I like to roam the house unplugged...sometimes it kind of levels your meter/timing... ...I need to plug in...but I do like unplugged because it lets you explore thing that you wouldn't "Dare" try plugged in...even on sunday...

I understand. I play a lot unplugged. Now, that said, my wife and kids like when I play amplified. Is it loud? Yes. But they like it, or seem to.

Maybe I got tired of the kids and the wife "asking" me to turn down. Honey, here's $20...take the kids out for pizza....and take your time. .....oh....I'm gonna stay here and play.

I on the other hand have placed an amp and guitar at all of my work spots so I can plug and play.
Haven't touched the acoustic for quite a while.

At least 3 or 4 times a week I practice thru my Boss GT-001 with headphones. I sit in front of a game and just whale away. It has an AUX in, so I sometimes play to backingtracks. It's not the same as playing thru my Z-Lux (which I absolutely love btw) but it's convenient, easy on the ears, sounds great and has an "off the charts" acoustic simulator.

I have guitars on wall hangers on every level of my three level house, so there is always one in view. Maybe that's my problem...I need amps. Let's see...the Z Lux can go in my office, the Remedy can go in the living room, now I need another Z amp for the basement.....I'm leaning towards the Stang Ray or a Maz or a Wreck or a...

I've got a full hollowbody, so I practice without an amp all the time. I also practice with the amp 2-3 times a week.

If there's a game on or movie we're watching, I'll grab an electric, settle in on the sofa and play...even finger exercises...anything to keep my fingers on the strings. I do play through the amps, but grabbing a guitar when I know I've only got 15-30 min. I don't bother to plug in and I get some time on it.

I play an electric unplugged probably 75% of the time. I usually only get to plug in on weekends. It got loud in the house for a while today.

The only time I plug in an electric at home is if I'm recording something or to check out a new pedal. I've always enjoyed the unplugged electric at home.

No joke, I think playing the electric unplugged helps my playing a lot. If I can't make it sound good, have good dynamics, etc. unplugged, the amp certainly isn't going to make it better. It's just going to be louder ****ty playing.

I never play unplugged. My "studio" (the Abbey) is abt 50 yds from my big house. I just now finished playing 3 hrs thru a 1957 Tweed Bandmaster..... Cranked up pretty loud...... At least I'm gonna enjoy going deaf......

I could play really quietly through my computer, while he's sleeping, but at that point, I'd rather hang on the couch with my wife and play unplugged. I've been doing it like this for so long it seems normal.
