Went back to the store to try out the Maz 38 before making my final decision. Didn't even do that. Just plugged into the Z-Lux and had to have it. What a fantastic sounding amp. I'm away from my main set up right now and don't have my main axes (PRS Semi-Hollow Custom 24, G&L Legacy). Instead I'm using an Epiphone Les Paul through this thing until I get home around the end of the month. But honestly even this Epiphone just sings and weeps through this amp. I am truly blown away. You built a fantastic amp, doc.

Congrats! What pulled you into the ZLux over the 38?

Tried so many amps from A to Z. Never been as satisfied with the tone and build quality of my amps. Picked up a used Zlux head from a member and received it yesterday. Played it til my fingers hurt last night. Love the percussive punch on the big strings and the sweet singing high end without any harshness. In stereo with my Zwreck i'm done.

Congrats! What pulled you into the ZLux over the 38? Probably just that I plugged into the ZLux first It was game over after that. Anyway, one thing I've been realizing with this amp is that I really like cranking the mids while clean. I thought I would prefer them lower down but the way the mid knob affects the sound on this particular amp is golden. Volume around 9 o clock, treble/bass at noon, mids at 2 o clock, reverb at noon, tremolo set slow and subtle, boost on about halfway. Ridiculous tone. This is an interesting period for me because I am away from my real gear/touring set up right now. I don't have my pedalboard (or my own guitars) so I have yet to dig into how this amp interacts with my dozen or so pedals on my board. Instead it's just me, a Les Paul I borrowed and this amp. It has been a very long time since I played straight in (and with a Gibson type guitar). It's good because it lets me get to know how this amp lives and breathes before I start putting octaves and auto-wahs and ambient pedals and heavy drives through it. The band I play in is actually relatively heavy for an amp like this (fusion and prog rock is what I would call us) but I'm sure the Z-Lux will be ready for it. Plenty of people on our scene are using old silverface amps anyway.

Congrats. We have the same amp With the range of adjustment on the eq plus the bypass, one can really shape the amp in a lot of directions. And match it up with various guitars. Look forward to hearing more once you're back at home base.

I've "heard" and "read" that the Zlux is a great amp - congrats on your purchase, and welcome to the forum!

I have found the Z-Lux makes your pedalboard shrink . . .

I have found the Z-Lux makes your pedalboard shrink . . . My board was replaced with separate pedals... I had two drives, a boost and a trem (and a tuner and A/B/Y switch). I changed out the two individual drives for a z-drive, which could still count as two I guess and then I have the two amp pedals for boost and trem. Using a clip on poly-tune too though I miss being able to bypass my signal with my foot :-).
