I lost a power tube in the Maz 18 last night during a gig. I noticed my sound was going south, took a look in the back of the amp, one was glowing, the other was dark. I flipped the amp off and finished the set on the Therapy. In between sets, I went to change power tubes, and the faulty tube shattered the second I tried to remove it. Now, I'm left with the guts of the tube stuck in the socket. What can I grab to pull this bad boy out without zapping myself???
I've blown many a tube in my day, this is the first time I physically broke a tube...

I have had a tube break as well. One was a KT66 and one was an EL84. It is a crazy world with regards to tube quality control. Glad you got it out without getting a zap.

I got it. And I'm only down one eyebrow... Which tubes were those and how long did they last? It was a JJ EL84. Completely lost vacuum as there was a white residue on the bottom of the tube. This set lasted about 3 months. I probably played at least an hour on one tube. These amps are tanks.

This isn't the first broken glass JJ EL 84 I have experienced lately. I reported the issue with pictures to JJ and Euro Tubes ( USA distributer of JJ ) . I'm awaiting a response.
Just remember guys the tubes are made of glass and should be handled with great care. They really weren't designed to be in a Guitar amp , placed in a trunk and driven all over God's green acre.

Z That's just absolutely crazy. Where the heck do they think they are going to be used? There aren't that many hi-fi rigs out there using tubes. Guitar amps have to be 90% or more of their market. I can see why you are using the Russian mil-surp tubes where you can.

I got it. And I'm only down one eyebrow... That's one way to achieve the attractive unibrow look. 😬
