I'm not a lot of help as I don't own a bluesboy. I do have an ASAT Special, ASAT Deluxe, and a Legacy. G&L makes some great guitars. I'm very happy with all of them.

I've had a few G&L guitars along the way, including: Legacy, ASAT, ASAT Classic, ASAT Z-3 .... Bluesboy is a good bang-for-the-buck purchase on the used market - locally, based on current/recent listings in southern Ontario I can pickup a GL ASAT or BLuesboy for less than 1K (U.S. dollars).... and maybe even a Legacy Special ....... not that I'm looking What I've liked about G&L: familiar shapes/sizes, overall good production quality, and of course there were some fine tones too happy shopping and cheers always, Joel

I had a custom Bluesboy built for me about a year ago (the semi-hollow version). It's seen a lot of action and has held up swimmingly. The sounds I get out of it are awesome; definitely one of the most versatile instruments I've ever owned (necessary for me since I work in a lot of different genres). Fit and finish is good, "feels" like a solid custom shop instrument.
Only issue I have is that it's pretty neck heavy. That was likely my fault rather than theirs though. It's a semi-hollow body with a fatty maple neck.

I don't have a BB, but I do have an ASAT Specail (3 screw, ash, RW board) and a crazy beautiful ASAT Z3 with a flame top and birdseye neck. I love G&L. I think, on average, they are a little better build-wise than thier F counter parts. If you buy used, you can get incredible deals as they don't resale as well due to not having an F on the headstock.
I highly recommend G&L.

I have 3 ASAT Classics and love them. Have to agree with the above in that they seem to be a better build. I like the necks much better, 12” radius with jumbos.

I've owned 2 ASAT, 2 Legacies and a Bluesboy. All very solid guitars and I will own more. As a bonus, they have very good resale so it's not a huge risk if you don't like it.
my 2 cents, Todd

I don't have a Bluesboy, but an ASAT (from around 1993 ... called the ASAT Standard then), which is now called the ASAT Special. It's the one with two MFD pickups. I adore this guitar. I started playing it in the same small shop in Florida at which I bought my Lowden. Every time I stopped by this shop I ended up playing this ASAT -- it just played so well! This little shop always threw a Christmas party, where all sorts of musicians would come by ... there'd be bluegrass on the front sidewalk, blues in the middle, jazz near the back, general jamming throughout. It was classic! I ended up playing this ASAT during Christmas for at least an hour or two and my adoring wife surprised me with it a couple weeks later. During this particular Christmas party, I was playing the ASAT and ended up jamming with a very nice, and very talented, older gentleman. Turns out it was George Davis (https://www.allmusic.com/artist/george-davis-mn0000639264/biography) who happened to live in West Palm Beach at that time (mercifully, and somewhat embarrassingly, I had no idea who he was, he was just a cool hang and great player -- I'd have been scared sh$tless had I known who he was -- he actually paid me several compliments while we jammed and my musical self-esteem has lived off those for a couple decades ). I've had that guitar ever since and have gigged it quite a bit. Looked at changing pups a couple times (never satisfied with what we have!) but always kept them and now would not change them ... period. Really good tone from those MFD's, more ballsy than a Tele but still nice and tight like single coils should be. Kind of similar to the Harmonic Design Z90's I have on the Epi LP. Anyway, I don't think you can go wrong with a G&L ... I've played a few G&L Strats others have owned, and always liked them.

I had an ASAT Special with the two MFD pickups that was a terrific sounding and playing guitar. I gave it to a friend after his only gigging guitar was ripped off. I had a Legacy that was a very nice guitar too, I ended up trading it for an amp. G&L are great guitars. I always wanted to try a Bluesboy but never have.

Cool to see so many G&L players here. I bought a Bluesboy 90 on a whim a few years ago. I LOVE it. I can't see myself buying anything other than G&L right now. The quality and finish options are just so good. I have a margarita metallic doheny on order right now.

Kind of a revived old thread. I bought this used semi-hollow CS BB late last year. I'm a sucker for G&L's flake finishes (I own two). The previous owner replaced the bridge pup with a DiMarzio split-able HB with a push push tone pot but included the stock pup. A fun guitar to play.

dont have one myself, but have spent dozens of hours with one when id borrow my uncle's (3tsb, rosewood board)...absolutely killer guitars that can do every genre no sweat. quality is tippy top for a fender-style. i dont have a bad word to say about them...youll get an ultimate gig machine if you take the plunge.

I suspect that if helmi was going to take the plunge, he has done it sometime since 2016. Maybe he will let us know.

I’m going to get another Crook soon and it will likely be a sparkle or flake

That happens sometimes. Sorry it didn't work out. I assume that you must have bought it new if you took a bath on resale. G&Ls are generally great bang for the buck guitars if you get them used. I'm slightly embarrassed to say I bought both of my current G&Ls primarily for the flake finishes with the matching headstocks. I've owned five others over the years though. Thanks for the feedback.

Lol, why be embarrassed? Buy what you like even if it’s for superficial looks. I’m an idiot and I buy what I like and want even if most other people hate it. I’m pretty comfortable in my own skin (in case that hasn’t been apparent over the years)! Oh, and by the way, that fiddle in flake with the matching headstock…..is stunning. You’ve done well, sir 😉

Thanks. The other one is an orange flake Legacy with Lollar Blackface pups and the required matching headstock. It's not in the same league as my Grosh S-type but both G&Ls are nice sounding and playing guitars.
Any slight embarrassment comes from figuring I had gotten past the superficial as a primary factor in my guitar buying choices. USA G&L is one of three brands I trust to buy blind so it was pretty easy and low risk to buy these two when they popped up used.

I've teched several G&Ls over the years and always been impressed with the consistency of their build and component quality.

With all their options and finishes they really entice you to order new. It is like getting a custom guitar really. My margarita doheny is still a couple months out, but I already have my next one in mind. But I think I need a Zwreck jr. first.

I guess a final picture won't be too off topic as it includes a better picture of the Bluesboy.
