Hi there - new member here and can't believe i've just discovered the EZG as it seems like it's the answer to my prayers i.e. a low-ish output strat and wanting plenty of headroom, without having to bow down to a vintage twin or super reverb.
I read on a thread about the bass being a potential issue on some of the earlier models. Dr Z himself chimed in and said it depended on the year and the serial number and that this issue has now been fixed (from memory, all amps made from 2013 are all good). I'm about to pull the trigger on a private sale EZG combo but it's out of state so the guy told me what he sees over the phone. Namely:
U26259 10/10
Can anyone help me on this? Thanks SO much in advance folks.

Here's how to read the serial #...
U - 2010 26 - Model EZG 259 - 259th EZG made 10/10 - October 2010
so, this is an older model and likely has the enhanced bass

Keith - thanks so much for this - you just summed up the sheer awesomeness of forums. Where else can you get an answer in half an hour on a sunday night?!
Have emailed Dr Z to ask what kind of options I have to get this fixed and how much that would likely cost. The guy will go down to $1,400 for a 1x12 EZG combo.... steal, right? Kinda wanna pull the trigger and fix the bass thing after....

I'm sure the bass taper is an easy fix and if you sent the used amp to Doc they could give the amp a full medical to make sure the amp is a good as new.

thanks again, Keith - that's what i'm thinking - at least for peace of mind and also to actually line his pockets at least a little bit! nothing worse than having to deal with questions from people about used amps all the time!
by the way - seperate question - maybe you can suggest where i post it as there doesn't seem to be a general amp question forum - they're all specific.
here's my deal - i thought i'd found the answer to my prayers when my buddy waxed lyrical about a Redplate RP50. Similar thing to this amp in that it's a 50W combo in a small footprint, designed to be a replacement to a super reverb. Played through it - stunning detail.... couldn't work out for a while why i didn't like it... then i realised - it was "too" good. every single sonic nuance being articulated incredibly. So i get why a lot of people swear by their Redplate amps. I guess i want it to maybe sag a little or just have more of that old super reverb-ness..... i wonder if, in general, Dr Z amps are like that i.e. modern and stunning, but maybe missing that stank of a 50yr old super reverb? don't get me wrong, i wanna stay clean, i'm not looking for growl - it's hard to describe, but hopefully you understand this rambling mess?! cheers!

I'm thinking in general Dr Z amps tend to be a bit revealing....speaker choice can help "take the edge off" I've found. To get that 50's grind I'm loving the Therapy with. Weber Blue Dog ceramic, and ZLux combination...you can get all forms and variety of amp character.
No personal experience with the EZG but I'm sure you'll love it. Every Z seems to have and do something special.

Welcome in by the way.....in general Dr Z amps have ALWAYS surprised me and opened my ears up to a broader sound. He creates tone machines....circuits that MAKE music with you, against you....pulling you and flowing with you in ways that other much more expensive amps never did.
The Ghia was my first...I'd love to hear the EZG but this Therapy and me are really grooving.

The bass runs up quickly once you turn it up. I leave it at a touch above 1 and it's great. Before you have it modded play it a little while with different speakers if you have them. It reacts differently depending on the speaker.

Thanks so much guys - I feel at home already! Pulled the trigger on the EZG50 late last night (was sober, promise! haha) Have already reserved some time in the basement of my friend's detached house in the suburbs - gonna put this thing through its paces! Definitely open to being patient with speakers - i also know first hand the difference they make. Just to throw it out there for anyone that might not be aware, the Cannabis Rex 12" is getting jaw dropping reviews from people using them as replacements, especially in deluxe reverbs - apparently it really warms them up. Will also check out the Therapy - thanks again guys - cheers! brian
