Hi all,I've seen an ezg 50 +4x10 cab come up for sale and seeing as I've been gassing for one for quite some time it's got my interest. The problem is its got a solid state rectifier fitted in place of the valve rectifier and the present owner said to put it back to stock I'd need to get the amp re-biased. Does anyone know if this is correct? I know from history I tend to prefer valve Rectified amps for the feel. Any advice would be great.

Yes a SS rectifier produces higher Plate Voltage , and subsequently the bias must be adjusted to reach the optimum value of 28 mA per tube. The amps are sent from the factory at 28mA per tube with a Tube Rectifier installed. So to plug in a tube rectifier, yes all you need do is remove the SS plug in and insert a 5AR4 tube rectifier , is to check the bias or idle currant and adjust if needed.
If I could be so bold maybe a factory fresh EZG 50 might be more to your liking out of the box, just sayin'

Thanks for getting back to me Doc. Unfortunately I haven't got the money for a new one,And I'd be trading an amp in the deal (another one of yours lol) I think if the deal goes ahead I'll see what it's like with the ss rectifier feel wise and if don't like it I'll take it to a tech. Oh and thanks EZGbiscuit too đź‘Ť.
