I'm I correct in thinking when using the Z Lux at half power the two outside output tubes are the ones in use? Thanks for informed replies.

In the ZLux and the Remedy even at half power all the power tubes are getting signal and being used. The circuit keeps half of the signal from reaching output when the half power switch is flipped. That means all of the tubes are wearing at the same rate, even though two are not being used for output. At least that's how it was explained to me by folks in the know. Or at least as I remember them explaining it to me. It's not like in half power switches on Twins and such where they disengage two of the power tubes. That's why you can't pull two of them. Also why the amp sounds the same at half power, as the amp thinks it's working at full power, even though only half is reaching output.

Explained much better by 'headshrinker' in the above post than by me. Just meant that tubes 7 and 9 appear to be the ones used for output at half power but yes all of them are on. Deleted my original post as not to spread any incorrect or mixed info.

I love your answer, but it seems to contradict the Dr. Z website Z-Lux description: "The power section is driven by 6V6 power tubes switchable between 2 (20 watts) or 4 (40 watts) via a half-power switch, much like the Remedy."

Without going into the details of the circuit and maybe revealing trade secrets, and again, as I remember it being explained to me. The 2 and 4 tube reference in the Z description refers to the "signal" from the tube, not what the tube is doing. All four tubes are functioning normally putting out "signal" all the time. At full power the "signal" from all four is reaching output. At half power the "signal" from two of the tubes is being diverted from output after they do their thing but before it gets to output.

Don;t have a Zlux but I do have a JAZ and they share alot of ground. However, that is not my point actually. I just got in from a gig, well two, played outside this afternoon and inside tonight. I used my Therapy. I have found that any amp that Z makes with a MV can cover about anything. Don;t need anything but the MV and the Vol....you can dial in any room. I use the JAZ on full most all the time and the MV to fit the room.
