Playing the Z-Lux here tonight and trying out different approaches to get sounds I'm familiar with. I just can't stump this amp - it can do everything well. And that Reverb! And that Trem! I'm looking at all my other amps and wondering if I'll ever play them again. It is just. That. Good.

I know what you're saying, Steve. Reminds me of something Mr. Ambel said about the Ghia "If there's a sound that's not in there, I don't need it" or something to that effect.

Sean was here a couple of weeks ago and we were discussing the Z-lux. My comment to him was that I set the controls for that luscious tone, and I never think about it again the rest of the night. Most of my other amps keep me tweaking knobs a few times thru each session. Not the Lux. I think the luxury of having an amp that allows you to be a musician while it's does its own "sound" speaks for itself. Yes, I too agree, this may be the best amp I've ever owned.

Yes, yes, yes. I just bought a Maz 18NR about a month ago and I've been breaking it in. It's a truly great amp and I love it...but a couple of days ago I was auditioning for a praise band and chose the Z-Lux. There's something about this amp that grabs ya from the first note. It's got this subtle and powerful authority that refuses to be denied. It's just a beautiful instrument.

It breaks through the mix so brilliantly. It cuts trough but it is never harsh or ice picky. Its fat and and warm sounding. Like Steve said that reverb is ridiculous. And I am not a huge fan of reverb either, but the lux has a lovely reverb.

At last night's gig, I got every tone I wanted using a Collings 290, a KoT and an Xotic SL running into the Z-Lux. Ended up not using the amp's boost or the Klone. (Had the delay on for few tunes.) Pretty sure I could cover any gig I'm likely to do with this setup. I still would like to try the DB4, though

Gigged mine at a youth rally last night and finally used my pedal board. Like doctorice said I was able to get any tone I wanted. The amp sounds juicy. Real sweet tone. You know how some fuzz pedals can sound buzzy and brittle especially in a clean amp. Well with my Fulltone 69 fuzz it was not at all the case just a real warm fat fuzz tone. Using my Marvel drive I can get it to sound like my old remedy. For a boost I use the J rockett archer icon. I didn't use the variable boost at all last night but it also is excellent.

Spent some time with the Z-Lux again last night. I was going to try to record because I can hardly believe the tones I'm getting, but the computer needed three hours of updates so that stopped that. Will try again tonight...

A pal of mine took some videos of us performing last Saturday. Even with an iPhone recording, the Z-Lux sounded really good. I hope to get copies so I can watch and listen on a decent sound system.
It is always good to hear your recordings, Steve, so I hope you have a chance to record some more Z-Lux goodness.

I've owned Redplates, Two Rocks (even the great ones), Port City, a bazillion Fenders.....vintage, and current, Glasswerks Amps.......I'm done
The Zlux is the best damn amp. Not only does it take all my pedals well......it even somehow makes that annoying "hiss" from my Keeley compressor non existent. I've recently added a 1x12 Z cab to play along side the combo. There's just not a bad tone. I simply love this amp........play the others for fun. Play the Zlux to get it done

^^^ Yeah, good question. Curious what would make a good match for the 16 ohm Z-12 (besides another 16 ohm Z-12).

It's in both the combo and the 1x12. Awhile back became a fan of the vintage EV Classic. The KTS is the alnico brother and not nearly as heavy Its has a little bigger magnet than the Z and holds the bottom end a bit firmer......very balanced across the board yet retain a beautiful sparkle for your highs. The stock Z speaker is good too.....but I wanted the low end a little tighter when pushing the amp. So, Many good ones out there, including the stock Z! ....for me?.... best all around ASW KTS70's

The Z12 is pretty balanced, so I would say whatever is the counterpoint to your guitar. Starts and Teles maybe could use a mellow speaker, Lester's could use something with a bit of high end sparkle...

I had a Thiele cab built for my EVM12-L and it sounds monsterously huge with the Z-12. Almost too much. I've got another 1x12 Z cab with a Creamback that is a really sweet match with the Z-Lux sitting on top. It plays well with lots of different speakers. I tried it with a 2x10 and that was nice too. Probably the Creamback was my favorite.

I've mostly been using a Collings 290 with the Z-Lux lately. I've got a show coming up that is oldies/60s music mainly. Pulled out the Tele. Small tweaks to treble and mid knobs on the amp. Done. Good to go
