With the name "Z-Lux", I've been associating the tone to a Fender Deluxe.....I just read the description on the Z site, it says they started with a Maz front-end, which to me has a good mix of British and American tones depending where the mid and cut is placed.
Just trying to get an idea of the tone in my head? I'm going to see if my local Z dealer has one for me to try?

I have a few clips on my blog, but they certainly do not represent the breadth or depth of the amplifier. Just me wanking... Blog Clips

Definitely leans Deluxe. I hear very little, if any, "British" tilt in the Z-Lux's tone, i.e., Z-Lux doesn't do the Voxy thing the way a MAZ can.

This is the video that pushed me over the edge on the Z-Lux. However, all the videos seem to represent the Z-Luz well. I saw that you didn't like the DB4 due to not bright enough. This one may not be what you need either, but it's my favorite Z to date. Shannon said early on this was the best amp he'd ever played through. I'm thinking the same thing. As much as I love the Therapy, this one has everything I need.

Deluxe, definitely. I loved the sound of the Z Lux and it's up there with the best amps I've ever played, but I have no need for reverb or a trem. I'd love to hear what one would sound with those removed from the circuit. Probably would be a solid rock n roll machine!!!

I'm in the Deluxe Reverb camp also. I have both, and used the Z-Lux exclusively on the last gig. It really held its own.

"Probably would be a solid rock n roll machine!!!"...ah, it IS a solid Rock-n-Roll machine! I don't use the tremolo myself, makes me dizzy. And I use just a smidge of reverb. I have found that using it in bypass EQ mode all the time is where it's for me. It becomes more like my beloved 'Ghia', just one with 'verb and a master volume. Solid Rock-n-Roll machine indeed!

I like my rock to be in the vein of the Therapy, Monza and Remedy - or better yet, even raunchier. I realize the Z Lux is not meant to be in that camp at all, but knowing how much gain reverb and trem take away from the circuit, I'd love to hear what kind of gain a Z Lux could put out without them. Would it sound like a Remedy?!?!?! Maybe, I'm not sure.

I find it to be more like a deluxe its real clean and yet fat and 3d like. As others have quoted its has more of a american voice. Big and warm yet it cuts through with precision. It can be bright if you want it to be. I don't use a lot of reverb but this amp has such a great reverb I can't help but use it it really massages the tone of the amp. the trem is really good too.
I don't use it that much but its very good.

Anybody wondering how much the Remedy-style power section contributes to an "American" sound, you've gotta listen to this video:
I, too (like roknfnrol is trying to show) feel the Remedy has a beautiful sparkly clean tone with the guitar's volume rolled down. I think that's what he was trying to imply in this video... that a clean Remedy (with reverb pedal) might fool you into thinking you're hearing a Fender.

I'm only a basement hack but I use my Remedy clean all of the time (with reverb). I have never driven my Remedy into overdrive (true story). Whenever I find myself wanting to play/learn some John Mayer I use the Remedy this way....and lately more so the Maz 18 NR.

Y'all aint helping my g.a.s. ..... d'oh cheers always Joel We have a job to do Yes we do, my good sir! Kindly allow me raise the compression ratio of your GAS attack: Yesterday I plugged into my Z-Lux and ran the Master Volume up all the way. Kicked in the Full Power switch, and set the Volume at about 8:30-9:00. Plugged in my trusty Les Paul Special and flooded the house with P-90 sweetness. It has this spot between 8:30 and 10:30 where it wants to slip into overdrive soo much but doesn't quite go there...Then I started cranking the Volume and backing the Master down and experienced nirvana on earth. This amp really does it all for me, it's astonishing. Then I plugged in the 335 and that's for another thread.

Full power, EQ bypassed. Volume and Master at noon. Sounds like a 50 watt Marshall. The stock speaker didn't blink at that volume. Sounded huge. That was with a P-90'd ES-335. Rock-f'n-roll indeed!
