I have a Maz 18 Jr. NR 1x12 that I've been playing forever. I bought it used and forget the year. It's the attached power chord model with a G12H30, possibly one of the early "Stu Don't Surf" models from Fat Sound Guitars, which I understand has gone done in a blaze of something less than glory.
Anyway, I'm guessing it weighs 60 lbs. and as much as I love how it sounds, I increasingly find myself wishing it were lighter and smaller. I've played around with a Maz 8, but the 8 doesn't have the . . . grunt . . . that the 18 puts out.
So I guess my question is, do I buy a new Maz 18 in the studio cabinet (I never see those used) or do I wait until the conversion to the new "classic-lite" cabinet? Or is there another solution I'm not thinking of?
Thoughts? Recommendations?
Thanks.

I traded a guy for a studio cab. So I have an older model like yours, in a studio cab, with a Celestion Century Vintage 12 Neo. My combo probably comes in between 35 and 40 lbs...never weighed it, but it is lighter with the neo speaker than a big magnet speaker. I see now that Celestion has a neo Creamback as well. FWIW.

One option is to contact Peter Mather of Mather cabinets and order a nice lightweight studio cab. Some other folks had done that previously and I was impressed with the weight difference. It might be a $300 investment or so but it beats getting a new amp if that is what you are looking at.
My 2 cents

I just got a Maz18NR Studio Combo a few weeks ago. I weighed it , comes in at 37 pounds with a G12H30. I've been looking at that Celestion Neo Cream too...

Another huge fan of the studio cab here. 45 lbs is a great weight. I do lug around 66 lbs with the 2x10" combo when we play out, though.

What about head / cab set up? Specs say the 1x12 is 38lbs, 2x10 is 41lbs. Not always ideal but a small hand truck can help alleviate some of the carry time.

Thanks for the responses, guys.
I'm curious how the studio cab will compare to the "classic-lite" both weight and sound wise, but I guess we'll have to wait to find out.

I have a head/cab setup partially for that reason. Manager of one of the bands I work with was helping me load at the last gig, she said she was blown away at how much lighter my rig was compared to what the rest of the band was using. Other than that, I'd definitely recommend going with a neo speaker as well. Some of my buddies have switched over; it's so light it almost feels like cheating.
Had no idea that there's a Neo Creamback now...man, I might have to take a peek at that....

The Century Vintage 12 Neo sounds a lot like the G12H to my ears. It was a little stiff at first, but the more I played it, the better it sounded.
