Just out of curiosity, can the Monza's 5AR4 rectifier tube be swapped out for another recto tube, or can a solid state rectifier be used?

Martin: Shouldn't be a problem swapping for another rectifier. Here's a link: ztalk.proboards.com/thread/6263/on-tube-rectifiers?page=1 Anything you sub will make the amp looser and give it more sag. As for solid state, I think I remember Doc saying he didn't recommend solid state rectifier with EL84 amps or possibly it was amps with two EL84s. That may have been for tone reasons not because they would cause a problem. Having said that, if I had a solid state rectifier, I would likely give it a go. If I did I would keep a close eye on the power tubes as I was playing. If they started to cherry up I'd shut it down. It's your amp though so proceed at your own risk. If you try some things let us know how they went. 5V4 rectifiers, if you can find them, are real cool with EL84 amps.

That might be kinda cool on the higher gain settings... makes me think about the BIAS knob on my Scarab Deluxe fuzz pedal.
