I have a Z28 and really love the thick edge of break up tones I get, does the Z-Lux cover that sound? I know both are supposed to be deluxe-ish. Love the thought of the reverb and tremolo. But afraid if I sold my Z28 to get it I would miss it? Give me your thoughts!!!!

I still have my Z-28, but it's too loud to play indoors. The Z-Lux has a master volume, reverb, tremolo, and variable boost, so it's a better choice for me indoors and at Church.

I had a Z-28 and it is a great sounding amp. I now own The Z-Lux and have to admit its above and beyond what I expected it to be. It completely blew me away. Its perfect with the option of 20/40 watts plus it has a master Volume as Stephen quoted. It is like a deluxe on steroids and thats what the Z-28 is somewhat described as so I understand where your coming from. However I think the Z-Lux is more versatile and it can take you from the bedroom to any stage and fit right in. Its the best amp I have ran across in a long time and I have had some really good amps. Its the cream of the crop. Its also lightweight yet puts out a huge 3D like tone it really fills the room and cuts through the mix like a ginsu. Awesome amp I can only testify for myself I don't miss my Z-28. I would def prefer the Z-lux over it. Now I do have a few Z amps that I do miss thats sound different then the Z-lux but I still like the Z-Lux better then them.

Imo, quite different and both wonderful. Z-28 is more tweed or brown deluxe; Z-Lux leans blackface. The EF-86 imparts a richness to Z-28 tone, sort of like a warm "envelope" around the notes. The Z-28 will get into a Marshall sort of sound when cranked. The Z-Lux is a "BF Deluxe on steroids". (Or maybe a Pro if you use the 40 watt setting.) It has its own very smooth sound, but it's a little dryer than the 28. ("Dry" like a good wine, not dry like overcooked food!) My $0.02, fwiw, YMMV, etc., etc.

I'm thinkin surf green with ZW cloth!!! I had a few Z Surf green amps and it is a cool color but after a while the color started to kind of become over bearing. Just my honest opinion. The only Z amp color I never had was red but I don't like the color red. But hey get what you want and what you like. Its all a matter of personal preference. For what its worth I did get a lot of compliments on the Surf Green Z's I used to own.

More like a big sounding brown Princeton to me. The brown deluxes I've payed were total gain machines. If I ever own a Z again, it will almost certainly be another Z-28.

Well I ended up parting with my Carmen Ghia and Z28! My Z Lux came in today not got to play it much yet the sound that I did hear was glorious!!! I love it so far the black and ZW grill cloth is surprisingly nice to look at! Black is not my favorite color but this one is very nice!!
