So I pulled the G12H30 and replaced it with a Creamback 65...and I really like the result. It rounded out the midrange and mellowed the high end of the Maz 8. I'm liking the clean and the overdriven tones as well. I had a Blue in it for a while, but went back to the G12H30 because I liked the tighter bass of that speaker. The Creamback kind of has the best of both worlds, and it's a great combination.

I thinking the Cream Alnico could be a great move, anyone in Z land have that combination at all?

It's been a couple of weeks since I changed to the Creamback M65 speaker, and I tell ya, it's a killer combination. I've tried the G12H30, the Blue, an EVM12L, a Texas Heat, a Dr.Z 12, and a V30. Nothing comes close to the Creamback, in this amp, for my ears. It sounds sweet clean and really overdrives well. Try it, you'll like it!

Out with the G12h - in with the Cream! I'll give the G12h back to the Z28 for a while - options are great!!

I hate the Maz 8 sometimes. I have a Gold, a G12h, a Creamback, and a WGE ET65, and they all sound great with this amp. Even my 2x10 with Jupiters are stellar with it. How can I know I have the right speaker paired with it?
But the Creamback stays for now!!

Great, now you've got me buying speakers as well... it's not enough I'm tinkering around with amps, guitars, pedals, tubes, cables, microphones... you just had to make me do it...

Markus, There is a ton of info out there. We have just been waiting for you to compile the data and graph the performance of the speakers. Of course those graphs have to include the tube variations with and without attenuation.

Speaker Impulse/Response analysis would be an interesting project... sigh...

Speaker Impulse/Response analysis would be an interesting project... sigh... Yes, but meaningless without waterfall graphs so we can understand your room's transients.

I was thinking isolation cabinet or at least a bunch of reflection absorbers and close micing... ah well.

It's early days yet as its not fully broken in yet but I must say the Creamback M65 is awesome. I run my maz8 with 5751's and now she's got the speaker to match. I'm a pedal drive guy ( literally got my email from Analog Man 10 mins ago .....the KOT is on its way!!!! 14 long months), I've got some Pete Cornish pedals ( incredible) and various others...the amp is just sublime. Handles fuzz, boost, distortion, you name it with an added warmth that wasn't there before. I've tried a Canis Major, Texas Heat, Gold and Blue (the Blue in my Lazy J20 is another story!!!).. To me the Creamback is the one for this amp... Thanks for for the heads up Dave!!

I tried a bunch in my Maz 8 and the Creamback M65 is staying put. I love the way the speaker compliments the amp. I got one in my new Maz 18 too, but I may experiment a bit with that one. The 18/Creamback can get a little harsh in the mids somehow. Might just be the way I've got it EQ'd too...

Recently decided I may prefer a large wattage alnico for my MAZ8 cab... since I love the alnico midrange detail, but the low end of the low watt alnico was just too lacking and cardboard sounding. Took a chance, and put a Austin Speaker Works Elegante in the Dr. Z 1-12 cab for my MAZ 8. Exactly what I was looking for. Big, nice low end, with all the midrange detail of an alnico, but not a trace of harsh or piercing... and very low break-in time (ASW told me about an hour). Who woulda thought... an 80-watt alnico Elegante 12" would sound so great being pushed by the MAZ 8. Excellent!

Just got my new cab with Creamback and plugged it into the Maz 8 today. So far, I really like it! Still need to try the Maz 8 with my Gold and the Z 12, but I really like what I'm getting from the Creamback.

Still need to try the Maz 8 with my Gold and the Z 12, but I really like what I'm getting from the Creamback. I really dig the Creamback in the Maz 8, but in the Maz 18NR it was too pushy in the mids; it wore me out...so I ended up with Doc's Z-12 driver in it, after trying about 4 other speakers.

I have another cab coming next week that has a Z 12 in it. Looking forward to A/Bing those with the Maz 8. And since I have a Gold sitting around here, I might as well give that a try too.

You sound like me and everyone else. My new Maz 8 has the Creamback which I like just fine. I have Peter Mather building a matching studio cab. I have the Z-12 coming, but @irreversal has me trying the Eminence GASC-64 as well. The GASC-64 is also in a slanted closed back with a Gold. That is quite a pair!
