Has anyone with a Z-Lux Combo tried an extension cabinet with it (Z Cab or other)? If so, what cabinet, what speaker(s) and how was the outcome?

I never tried a Z Lux but I have tried many Z extension cabs and they are well built and sound great. I would suggest a 1x12 or 2x12 Z cabinet with the Z Lux. As for speakers, usually the speaker that Dr Z recommends is usually the best match for the amp. I have tried to experiment over the years but more times than not,I go back to what he originally spec'ed for the amp. I believe he went with his own brew Dr Z 12" speaker for that amp. You may want to start there. Good luck!

I have a Z 1-12 Convertible Cabinet with a V-30 in it. I have not used it live yet, though. I hope too soon if we can ever get the keyboard player worked in!

I'll be running a Z 1 x 12 convertible cab with my Lux combo tonight (OUTSIDE)! I've got a Gold in the ext cab, so it might have to be unplugged if it over-powers the quieter Z-12 too much. I figured playing a street-dance car show with a prediction of 1,500 peeps, I might need a little more volume.... I'll let you know tomorrow....

If it overpowers the Z 1x12...I would put it as the bottom cab. It my help to your ears if you're standing. just a thought. Or a nice Creamback. That is what I would get as an extension cab to my Z-Lux combo.

^^^^^ Greg....we're on the same wavelength, Brother..... That's exactly what I did...
And let me tell ya brothers, this amp DELIVERED! This was an open, outside event. Due to the unexpected cold snap, the expected 1500 attendees were reduced to prolly 750, but still a lot of folks and cars. This combination worked very well. The heavy hitting Celestion Gold was on the bottom in the Z Convertible 1 x 12, and the Lux was elevated which gave the Z-12 a chance to sing. I really enjoyed this combination despite the fact I thought the Gold would over-power the Z-12. It didn't. What I found was that (stacked this way) the Z 12 gave the crunch, and the gold gave the alnico cleans simultaneously. I have always thought (until tonight) that most Z amps prefer single coil pup'ed guitars. But nothing could be further from the truth here. The Lux totally "ate up" the Collings with it's "Thro-bak" humbuckers! That guitar was incredibly juicy, thick, and full of richness. The old strat required some tweaking to keep it from getting thin and lifeless.
As the cold increased (decreased) to about 45 degrees, the crowd quickly dissipated (this is Texas, you know), and I cranked this bad arse Z-Lux into the cop-calling db territory. Man, this Z-Lux came alive as I was coaxing a lot of feedback and playing some really righteous blues (and Jethro Tull and Clapton stuff on steroids).
My band mates were shocked at the tone from this combination, and the few remaining attendees really rocked with us. Despite the cold and most of the crowd disappearing, those who waited got a very special treat. I LOVE this amp, and so did they..... and the Gold in the extension cab really added a bit of clarity that might have been lacking (think muddy at this volume) had it not been for the extra cab
I've pretty much found my rig for outside gigs. This is a killer combination! Really fun to crank live!!!!!

Great report and photos Lee! My Cream in my Z cab sounds great like this too. I also like them side by side. If the stack is ever to high, try that. I feel the same about this amp and humbuckers as well. ZLux loves humbuckers....and Throbak's particularly well! Great looking set up there brother! ...and glad the "cop calling volume territory " didn't come into fruition!!

Gorgeous setup, Lee. I assume the Master knob was cranked up some as the show progressed

Gorgeous setup, Lee. I assume the Master knob was cranked up some as the show progressed Yeah, Mike. Those are my studio settings. I brought it up, but honestly, not a whole lot. I'll ck it out today and see where I last set it and let you know. I had a RYRA Klone pushing the front end of the amp pretty hard, and when we got into the free-style stuff, I engaged a Wampler Clarksdale Delta OD as well and occasionally an Xotic AC, and both were also set much higher than unity. Plus, the Collings is a pretty loud guitar. I had a lot of dial (V&M) left to get to (as T-Rock says) WFO...... On the 40 watt setting, w/ 2 x 12's, this amp pushes a lot of air....
