Oh-oh Bill, this old sales-guy is hearing buy signals.
Yeah brutha, Lee has a good point.
Ya know... I'll bet an alnico would be great with it. I prefer a Blue but due to power issues maybe a Gold. Plus, I think a G12-65 or Creamback sounds good with just about everything I've put with it.
Oooh, and how about a pair of 10's or a Eminence Legend 15...Fender-y.

Since I have the combo I'm using the supplied Z speaker, which sounds great, and it is NOT TOO LOUD for the basement.

Also been wantin' to put the 'Lux up against some stiff competition: a Deluxe Reverb, EZG-50, and maybe even Mike's real-deal blackface Super. Sorry, y'all... back to the thread at hand... Heynewguy (Bill), if you're like me, then you'll probably just end up with a roomful o' speakers and try 'em all. Though, I trust that the 'Lux will sound great through nearly anything.

Bill I have a Z-Lux head and a Z 1X12 cab with the Z-12 speaker and I would never think of changing any part of this! For what it's worth?

I guess I should of said what speakers I do have: DRZ old style 1x12 with Gold DRZ old style 2x10 stock Z speakers Marshall 4x10 closed back
I'm thinking the Z Lux will sound great in all of the above.

Bill, I have all those cabs except for the Gold. The Z-Lux likes them all, but I agree that the combo Z-Lux with the Z-12 speaker is really a remarkable combination. It covers a huge variety of tone and covers them all very well. I tried stacking my Z-Lux on top of the 2x10 and 4x10 cabs, running it in parallel with the Z-12 speaker, and it sounded really huge. Especially with the Marshall loaded with those old G10L35's...It was mammoth! That's a great cab, and it's light on the ol' back too. Fat 'n sassy, smooth but with a great attack. Really, I haven't found a speaker that sounds bad at all with the Z-Lux. It's just a great amplifier. I ran a couple of 2x12 open back Avatar cabs that I've got, but for multiple speakers I personally like 10's the best. The Z-Lux has so much authority in the bottom end that I think 2x12 or 4x12 is overkill. Oh, I tried my EVM-12L loaded Thiele cab with it too. That was really nice! With tremolo and a little reverb, it was totally swampy.

I bet it will sound great with any of those options especially the Gold but it will be louder then the Z speaker. I like the Z speaker because it seems to be very well balanced for that combo. I can play at any volume and it sounds excellent.

I'm getting the combo next week, but I also have some speaker cabs. They have a 12"blue dog in one, a 12" warehouse guitar speaker in one, and a10" wgs in the other. I'll be trying them all. I'm glad the good doc gives that option instead of hardwiring the speaker to the amp like other amp makers. TeeDawg, take a deep breath. I will do everything in my power to get your custom Green 1x12 Z Lux on Humbuckers pallet next week. So it will travel to Humbuckers , then sent out to you. No way are you going to receive that amp next week, it will be in transit to you but it will take more then a few days realistically. I'm glad you are so excited about your new custom amp, and I hope it's every thing you dreamed it will be. Z

What speakers are you pairing up with your Z Lux head? I'm thinking the Z Luz will like every speaker. The GAS is getting the better of me. When it comes to amps & speaker cabs it's "aas" not "gas" lve experimented with quite a few. The Docs speaker is great.....and very balanced. Also.....on the lighter side when it comes to weight. It's still in my combo. As for pairing up with my head......the Dr Z 4x10 is insane. INSANE. (did you hear me)? Over the top great with his iti-biddy lil blue Dr Z labels. They crush it. 4 mighty soldiers working their tail off in synchronicity to bring a dimension that no one can argue. Seriously amazing In a single 12 They are not cheap, and not sure if it's worth the added $ and they are heavier....but the ASW KT70's (Austin Speaker Works) are my personal favorite. Think of them as the alnico version of the god awful and heavy.....but glorious EV classics. You have to do your homework on them, as I have.....if you want to journey into the jungle of tone. Find em used if you can or pay the $274.00 for Everett to make em up and ship. There's a reason another completely obssevive compulsive tone junkie uses them; Eric Johnson.....but he has his signature line. (So keep it a secret) Warning: bring an machete, and a compass for the journey is a ridiculous adventure that many never find their way back home. Good Luck!

late to the thread--running mine with a 1-12" celestion gold and a 2-10 cab with a gold and a z-10" speaker and it sounds great through both. I am vey happy with the sound and have no desire to change anything.
