Hi, all. This is my first post here, so sorry in advance if I make any stupid mistakes.
I got my Ray about two months ago. It's a 2x12 combo with blues. I don't need to tell you how incredible the sound is.
Here's my question. I want a spare set of EL84s on hand because I've read here that when the tubes go on this thing they go quick. I may invest in some NOS beauties later on, but right now I just want something that I can get my hands on easily, and that I can pop in to the amp if the tubes start to fail suddenly. What should I get?
Has anybody tried the new Mullard reissues? I'm sure they compare unfavorably with the real thing, but how do they compare with other current production tubes? I'm pretty sure what's in there now is JJs, and those seem fine, but maybe I don't know what I'm missing. Anybody had any really good or bad experiences with these or any other current run EL84?

I have GT's as backups, if they're good enough for the good Dr to use then I'll keep them around for a backup. I had some JJ's in an amp not long ago that seemed pretty good. Actually, the last time I blew some tubes I went out and got some Mesa Boogie tubes and I'm really happy with them!?
No doubt that NOS are better, but there are plenty of good ones out there to choose from now. You might check in the "Tubes" section here on the forum to see what they say as well, I know this topic has been brought up several times.

I recently went to eurotubes.com and picked up a couple sets of JJ's so that I could replace the ones I had in my Stingray and have a spare set too. They sound great so far. Oh, and karma for your first post, and for having a GREAT amp.

Thanks for the advice, both of you. I think I'm gonna go with the JJs, but but I'm both tempted and frightened by the fact that nobody seems to have tried the new Mullard reissues. I may pick up a quad of those and report back.

Steve, what reading do you have on the tubes (EL84) you bought from Eurotubes, i.e., using Bob's own coding?
