So after alot and I mean alot of looking and research I was just about to order one and low and behold Tulsa Band just became a dealer so I opted for a head, 2-12 open back with Blues. I just can't wait for it to get here, but I'll be patient since I have no choice. I'm sure I'll take a week off of work once I get it and never leave the house. Of course now I'm wondering what to pair it up with since I know I won't stop with just one.

Congratulations! Even though you did a load of research, when you hit that first chord, your jaw will hit the floor.

So now that I'm sending my G&L to McVay for a bender and waiting for my Ray I've been going over options for pedals my thoughts so far are a Keeley compressor, Keeley TS9, Zendrive, AC/RC Booster. Thats my ideas so far and I'll probably round most of that up while I'm in waiting for my goodies to arrive. Still not sure for a delay possibly a Line 6 dl4, Boss rv-5 ....any suggestions would be definitely appreciated. Oh and my target is a really thick, fat country twang some blues and rock. I am trying to get a "set" sound so to speak but I also want some versatility involved with that.

I've been using a Smart People Factory I-5 delay with my 'ray and it's working pretty well. Not programmable, so you have to mark the knob positions for different delays and such, but you CAN make it sound like tape if that's your thing. Plus it fits on a regular size board....

Yeah - everyone will chuckle about that colour - until you pwer on and hit the first bar chord - and blow them away.
Now go out and get yourself some big black frames With the glass so dark they wont even know your name And the choice is up to you cause they come in two classes: Rhinestone shades or cheap sunglasses Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah...;-)

Well the day before I picked up my Ray a storm took out my computer....so some choice pics and sound ops are coming when I get it back up. I was totally blown away by the sound out of this genius piece of equipment. It is definitely by far the best clean sound I have ever heard in person with just a guitar and nothing else. Definitely praise the Z. If someone ison the fence and has never played or heard one in person let me say this. If you have a tele this amp was made for it....perfect match of tone, bottom end with punch, warm, fat tone. There cannot be enough said about the sound of the monstrocity of tone this setup is capable of. As I and quite a number of players here in Tulsa agree....depending on your guitar.....no pedals required. The Ray is very reminicent of amps that have long been horred out to the production masses.

I just can't decide between this and the RXES as my next Dr Z. What a nice looking rig.

I thought for sure you'd be gassin for Evan 50 George! Azats' RXES sounds awesome and it's 240 to boot. Hollywood, that's pretty healthy praise! Certainly not making it easier for me.

Yeh I probably would have preferred the EZG-50 over the Galaxie in that I love a big twin with lots of luscious reverb. G.A.S got the better of me at the time. What can I can I say, I grew up on the beach, I love to surf but in saying that the Galaxie is no slouch, it ain't going anywhere. It really is a cool amp and my second favourite behind the Ghia right now. I just add some verb in pentode setting on channel 1 with my Holy Grail and it does the tricks. You'll just have to see for yourself when you are up next. As far as Dons(AZAT) RXES is concerned, how much different was it compared with my Maz Invasion? Can you remember?

No Dr. Z Rt66 here, that's a Visual Sound Rte66 pedal.... Half TS808 and half compressor. I've confused a few people with that. Yeah, I had a RxES..... I personally liked the Ray better. It's bigger, not as bright but more chime (if that makes sence) and can get pretty warm too..... Plus, it has tons of low end if you want it. Here's my Rt66:

That's pretty interesting now you're saying that Jason. "Not as bright but more chime" that sounds very appealing. I'm not really all that concerned about a thundering bottom end as I like to sit have my tones sit pretty heavily in the upper mids. I guess thats why I was interested in the Mazerati for a little while. I guess i am leaning more and more towards a Ray each time I find out a little more about it. It seems most people who have an RXES and Stangray are still recommending the Ray to me.

I'll tell you one thing, if I could run the RXES through a old Marshall quad I'd have one for sure. That was a killer sound. The overdose was the best overdrive pedal I've heard and the clean was beautiful. The difference with your invasion is hard to translate. Your Maz was maybe "sweeter" or a bit less lower mid. Maybe more fendery although I don't think it sounds like a Fender. The tops sound more fendery or marshally whereas the RXES is much more voxey. The RXES can go from sweet to mean especially thru a quad. It's a very "hi-fi" boutiquey grind with a rich eq. Not sure if 2x12 greenies would quite be as good. Truely it's in a league up there with any boutique amp you can think of. It's pretty loud running dirty though. (aren't they all!)

I can't see myself ever using a quadie again. A 2x12 is where I am at these days. Then again there's a lot of folks here praising the RXES through 2 greenies.

We had a good quad - Fender Supersonic 412 - quad V30s sealed.
The Stingray sounded just fine through it.
But we traded it in on a Z-Best. Good trade. ;-)
And we also got a new open-back 2x12 Alnico Dr. Z with matching Blues.
The open 2x12 is the Rolls-Royce of cabs, >>> at any volume <<<.
With a 'Ray head on top, it is the industry standard, in my opinion.
