Hi guys. As you can see i'm new here. Just decided on the Stangray 2x12 combo. What a great sounding amp but I've quickly had problems with it. The power tubes went out within a week of getting it. Replaced those and just Saturday night during a gig I flipped the standby switch and immediately got a lot of static and the volumn dropped out. I powered off everything including my pedal board and when I turned it back on everything seemed fine. Now i'm noticing that when I flip the standby switch i'm getting a loud pop. Can anyone help me out with what this might be? Thanks.

I don't have a Ray, but I had a bad EF86 in my RxJr that had similar symptoms (but no "pop"). Is this a brand new amp?

Yes it's brand new. I've had it about a month now.

If that's the case, Doc and/or Groove Tubes (depending on which tubes are bad) will take care of you.

After getting an amp, I always take the back off and reseat the tubes and just give it a visual and make sure all is tight and looks right. I have had tubes break while still in the sockets from handling during shipping.

Just when i think i've figured out tubes and tube amps, something happens that makes me feel like a noo-B to them.....re-seat all the tubes, and if you have any spare tubes try swapping out one at a time until you find the culprit.

Thanks guys. I've got a message to Brent to see if he can figure something out. Just seems like an odd problem with an amp that's only a month old.

I've got my Ray coming on order and I would hate to have problems. I understand this happens sometimes but it always seems to happen to me.

I've been playing on it for over 6 month with the stock tubes and have never had a problem, so it's not a "problem" with the amps, just probably this one rare case.

Just got my Ray 3 days ago have played it everyday in the house and haven't had a problem. I do get a pop with it once in a while when turning in to standby with it hooked up to my pedal board. But I have the same pop on occasion with a Divided by 13 10/20 and a Carr Rambler that I own. I think it may be in the pedal board. Not to sure what can cause that. Other than that it keeps sounding better w/ every guitar I own. I hope you get it figured out, I'm sure Dr Z stands behind the product ..Mike

Seems like it will be ok. I talked to Brent at Z and he ran some things past me and is sending me a new rectifier tube. He thinks that may be the culpril behind the popping. Also found out the amp was made in 2006, so there's not telling how many people have test drove it in the store. Just may have been time to retube everything.
