Not here Harold, thought about a double gain 12AX7 in there though I certainly don't need it any cleaner !!

She's clean alright, but she sure inhales pedals pretty good!

Yes Sir. BB > "RAy = instant SRZ Yep, I've been through about 20 different boost/fuzz/distortion pedals and the BB is still my fave. It sounds so much like real amp overdrive, it becomes part of the amp! Perfect match for a Stang, but also kills through my Super Reverb.

BB + Ray works great for me too. But, I'm also on the list for one of these: ethos

What do you think it would accomplish by putting a 5751 there?

A little different gain structure and tonality. I liked a 5751 in the PI slot of my Maz 38. The 5751 has a great sounding high end to me.

5751 fattened up the mids in my Ghia and smoothed out the highs (I've got 5751's in both v1 and v2)....I'm just afraid to mess with the Stang Ray...through the Lo input with the volume between 3:00 and max I can get the perfect overdrive tone for pretty much any axe and I'm scared to change anything, really.
I find it funny that you guys think it's too clean though...To me, the HI input is useless with any gain boost pedals, buckers and even some hotter singles...I find that the EF86 overdrives VERY easily.

Not tried this on the Ray yet, but I did put NOS JAN 5751's in V1 & V3 of my RXJr...VAST improvement for me...now I REALLY dig that amp Amazing really.

The one time I got the really crank up my Ray and goof with it a bit, I found similarly-- the Hi input just turned to mush at the far end of the dial. I think some of it is where you are running the volume control. If you need more headroom and max volume, the LO input seems to be where it's at. If you want to try and lower the breakup ceiling on this amp, the HI will help that. YMMV
