Just bought a couple of SE X1R Ribbon mics, it's the perfect recording mic for the '66. I don't think I have ever had the experience of the recording sounding just like it sounded in the room while playing but that's exactly my experience with this great ribbon mic. It's so much fuller and warmer than any dynamic mic I have tried while not being as dark as most ribbon mikes. Listen for yourself: JimR on SoundCloud both guitar cab (Celestion G12H30) and overhead mics are SE X1R. JimR

..and another recording with the same mics on my DrZ Route 66 1x12" cab. I also used 2xSEX1R as overhead mics on the drums (through an SSL 4000 stereo kompressor DIY clone). Rythm guitar with a dirt cheap great sounding Joyo Sweet Baby overdrive and lead using a Zendrive clone boosted by an Alberta (Tube Screamer type overdrive) for that singing tone. Train BluesJim
