After many posts asking questions, and much money saving, I finally ordered a stang ray from Fat Sound tonight. I got a head and 2x12 cab with blues in Red and Black just like bluzman's. Now I just have to wait 6 weeks. I'm SO excited though. I can't wait to join the Ray brotherhood.

I waited over 4 months for my first Z back in 2000. 6 weeks will be here in no time.

So the 6 weeks came and went with no Ray, but I just found out it will be here this time next week! I'm so excited for my amp to get here. I''ll let you know what I think if I can drag myself away from the Ray to type.

I''ll let you know what I think if I can drag myself away from the Ray to type. Oh man! I had to wait two days to pick up my new car, and I couldn't even sleep. I can't imagine waiting all that time for a new Z amp. But of course I did back when I got my first.

I remember the wait...OUCH!! The light is showing at the end of the tunnel now. It's funny as just this morning I was up in the studio and was looking at the StangRay and 2x12 and commented to myself how sharp it is in the Red and Black. You're getting yourself a rig to be proud of! I'd say enjoy it but that's a given!! ;D But, enjoy it!

Congrat's! Your gonna love it. What a great clean amp and a perfect platform for pedals.

Red/Black might be the best looking Z color combo of all time, too.
So you not only get the best SOUNDING Z, but the best looking, too!
YMMV:)

UPS has it scheduled here for tomorrow! I absolutely can't wait. I have a gig to use it on that night and everything. Sorry for posting so much about the anticipation and not the actual amp, but none of my friends truly understand my excitement like you guys do.

Oh yeah! Should be a good gig, but it's too bad you don't have a minute to fiddle with the thing before you have to perform!

Yeah, I will probably take my Maz Jr. head along too just in case I can't get the Ray working like I want. Hopefully it will get here early in the afternoon and I'll at least have a few minutes with it.

If you're using single coils, go with cut around 9/10:00, tone around 2:00. Humbuckers, just brighten things up a little. Takes only seconds to understand the workings of this amp. Stick your fav OD pedal in the chain and you'll be diggin' the clean AND dirty tone.

I must have some dark pickups or speakers, I run my cut at about 1:00-2:00 and my tone about 2:00 as well, or maybe I like the brighter tone? My speakers are Weber Alnico blue and silver bells, both 50wt...... I also sometimes run through an Eminence Red Fang. My pickups are Fralin blues specials, single coils.

Hey, your not alone bro, I like to run both controls around 1:00-2:00. Yeah it's bright, but that's why I bought the amp in the first place. I think the cut control sounds really good anywhere from 10:00-2:00 but I really prefer the tone control btween 1:00-2:00.

I just ordered my Ray yesterday. I was told 8 to 10 weeks. At least I have my Maz 38 Sr in the mean time.

Sweet, thanks for the tone suggestions guys. I'll probably still take my Maz to the gig anyway as the Ray definitely has the potential of being too loud for this one. I'm hoping with my 1x12 cab w/ Gold and an airbrake I'll be able to use her. If not, then at least I tried.
She's on the truck for delivery!

So she arrived yesterday and boy is she gorgeous. I posted pictures in the Stang Ray Gallery here... drzamplifiers.proboards41.com/index.cgi?board=zgallery&action=display&thread=1184595027&page=2#1204309573It only arrived 30 minutes before I had to leave for my gig and those 30 minutes weren't that great due to some pilot error. I had stupidly done two things. 1, because I was planning on using it for the gig and planning on using pedals, I plugged in through my pedalboard immediately. Little did I know that my Wah was on. I couldn't figure out why it was so harsh until 5 minutes before I left. I also had the 4 Ohm cab plugged into the 8 ohm port because all of my other cabs are 8 and I didn't even think to look stupid me. At least I didn't plug an 8 ohm cab into the 4. Anyway, I just took the Maz Jr. to the gig and haven't gotten to play the Ray since. I live in on campus apartments at a school that has a lot of music students. From the hours of 3-7 we can be as loud as we want. After that, it's silence. So I have been patiently waiting for 3 to roll around to give the Ray another shot. Anyway, I'm an idiot, but she's a beauty. I can't wait to really play her today.
