Hi! I´m new to this forum and currently not owning a Dr. Z amp. (hopefully I will soon..... ). Also, I don´t know much about these amps cause there´s no dealer in Sweden. I have always been into Fender amps (Deluxe reverb- 65 ri and currently a custom vibrolux) but now I just can´t stop thinking of the Stang Ray after hearing B.Paisley. Strange cause I have never played or heard one but it feels right. The only thing I´ve heard is the clips on the site. I´m playing in a 50´s rockabilly/country-band using telecasters, do you think a Stang Ray (head and 2x12 cab) will be a good choice, hopefully it will put some new colours in my playing?? Thanks,

Tough call. Not because of the amp though. You can't really go wrong with the 'ray, but as to how it fits in with the style of music you're doing, that's harder to say. I know I love mine, and plan to keep it longer than any other amp I've owned. I guess we'll see, but the Stang Ray is in a class by itself. I've not played anything that quite does what it does.

The Stang is more of a Vox AC30 tone, but with it's own take on the classic tone. It's deeper and "spongier" than an AC30. It is a little brighter than a Fender, which may take some getting used to....but it's not the shrill highs you'll find in Fenders when you try to crank the highs. You'll even find yourself wanting more top end simply because it's musical in this amp..... And low end, this amp has more low end available running in to a 2x12 then my 150wt Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier and 4x12 had!! It's a GREAT amp, but definitly not Fender..... I think it could do rock-a-billy, heck Brian May did it with his AC30 in the song "Crazy Little Thing Called Love". I've got a few clips of it at www.guitartest.moonfruit.com if you want to hear some more clips.

It WILL do Rockabilly but you will need a reverb pedal, head or outboard. I lent mine out to a good friend who plays Rockabilly, Country and Bluz and he used a HG for verb and it was NASTAY with his Tele!!

Thanks guys!! I know it´s difficult to answer if it will suite my style of playing but you sure give some good advices.... telejas, thanks for the link. I will check it out.
Too bad I have no chance to try it here in Sweden. It´s possible to order it from Norway. We´ll see if I take a chance and order it.....I know I will in the near future.....I let you know when I have it. Thanks again....

I've owned a Ray for almost 2 years, and have closely watched here and other forums to see what folks think. The Ray seems to be one of those things, 'you either love or not'. I love mine, it does things I cannot get other amps to do. With a Tele on the bridge it is magic, especially if you do hybrid picking at all, very very articulate...you should be prepared for that. I have mine now sitting beside a Mazerati combo, and A/B'd both last night. I can truly say with the two side by side you have Mr. Smooth and Mr. Nasty. The Rati makes the Ray appear super smooth and refined sounding...of course it'll get angry too with the right pedals. Phenomenal clean sound. Good luck

Like a previous fella said, you will need a nice delay (reverb would be optional). Man, you can't go wrong with this amp as long as you are using a single coil pup guitar. This amp absolutely loves Teles and Strats. I imagine a Hi-Lo Tron loaded Gretsch would be killer as well. I did a gig with a Gibson ES-345 and was not as thrilled as I was with my Fenders. You may THINK you must have reverb but as complex as the tone is you may find you can really cut through the mix better without it. I will NEVER do another gig without my Stang Ray Combo.

There was a good month long learning curve for me. I always had a master volume amp..so I had to reconfigure how I play/set-up......since the Ray is very loud. Yes.... a Z-Brake..I know....Played with that too. I ended up using reverb pedal,FDRII or RC booster...+ a volume pedal to dial things in. Very nice Clean to crunch..chimey tones...That I have always tired to find with my other amps...but couldn't.
