The amp is wonderfull sounding...nice clean cleans...1/2 power nice smooth softer tone vs/maz 18's I have.It is not quite as forward/ie louder than the maz 18 at half power in my first run with zlux...used my texas tele which can be a little narly if not dialed right...fell right in the tone deep end with the amp...I had to do little dialing to get to where I needed to be...haven't got to the strat yet and that usually is a little more forgiving.
At first I thought the fan would be a little distracting, but it is low noise and does its thing nicely...cab is light and maneuverable.I don't think setting your kiester down on it's a good idea though.
Kicked into full power you can tell the juice is on...full fat tones...sweet, organic honesty...vibrato is as good as any fender I have ever had and a little quieter to boot...reverb is a lot deeper and lusher than my maz 18/verb...a lot.I was surprised how nice it is.
I didn't get it to breakup stage...although I did max the 20 watt vol to see if I could get there...another day.The mazes I have are definitely the ones to go to if that's your sound/and it is mine too.
Dr z can build a bad a** amp and this has to be right up there and I don't know how it could be topped...I have not owned a ton of handwired amps...but I sure have found the ones I could happily live with for many years to come...thanks doc.

Try cranking all eq knobs to max, Dave. Adjust the eq backward from there. Then crank the volume

Don't forget that in this design, you can get a bit more saturation from the power amp with the master wide open. If you're driving the power amp real hard from the front end, you'll get some glorious tones that aren't possible with the same preamp settings but the master turned down. Just sayin...

Sounds like an amazing amp. Thanks for the report , real interesting about the reverb. This will probably be my next amp , keep us posted about what you get when it's cranked. Do you have a guitar with 'buckers to try in it?

Try cranking all eq knobs to max, Dave. Adjust the eq backward from there. Then crank the volume Will doing that bring the tone that you dial in forward with more volume? In other words , you get what you dialed in , but louder?

got it...have to be a little conscious of volume for right now... Which is why when I got mine, I immediately connected my airbrake. I wanted to see what the power amp sounds like (it sounds real nice).

I been running my Volume at About 5 and my master at about 4 I tried cranking the master and dialing in the regular volume and went back and did the same thing cranked the volume then backed down the master. I got great tones both ways this amp is killer. Even in the 20 watt setting it is loud!

In other words , you get what you dialed in , but louder? Pretty much, Frank. It's like the MAZ, which you know well. Passive eq, so cranking all the tone knobs -- no Cut, of course, on the Z-Lux -- delivers max gain for whatever Volume knob level you've set. (The eq bypass delivers even more gain, but without the more refined tone shaping.)
